That is a VERY realistic possibility...except I think you have to admit, that's the ideal scenario for the Cards.

That would be a dream come true for us. I would pull a hammy trying to get to the podium to get Mendenhall.

I like the mock for the Cards with the exception that i would take Charles over Johnson in round 2.

Yes, it would be ideal.

But, all I've done is review the primary needs of each team ahead of us, and ascertained whether they could be answered. If I have 10 to 12 right, then the Cards will have a prime, albeit difficult - pick to make at 16.

However it breaks down on draft day; the Cards should see one or more of the following available:

1 or more of the following O-lineman: Chris Williams, Branden Albert, Jeff Otah
1 or more of the following D-backs: Leodis McKelvin, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Mike Jenkins, Aqib Talib
1 or the other of: Kentwan Balmer - Philip Merling
1 or the other of: Rashard Mendenhall - Jonathan Stewart

Why is a pass rush specialist a higher priority for the Lions than running back?

I like Matt Ryan as the best QB prospect this year that I've seen at least 4 times. I can't comment on the many I have not seen enough of.

He plays a smarter, better game than Brohm with much less talent around him, in my opinion.

Agreed. I think that he is much more poised in the pocket, and he can make all of the throws that will be expected from him at the next level.

Because they cut K. Edwards, who had all of two or three sacks last season... and they've traded the interior pressure from Rogers to Cleveland.

Redding and DeVries is all they have at this point to bring a bit of pressure on the QB.

But Edwards wasn't a starter for them, anyway. And he never turned out to be much of a pass rusher. They also have Dewayne White, who was a solid FA acquisition for them with 6.5 sacks last season.

But at RB, they only have Tatum Bell who only had 44 carries last season. I'd guess that if Mendenhall fell to them, they'd find it difficult to pass.

I'm just reflecting a concensus on what I've read over the past few days, which was that Detroit's primary needs were on D... and particularly... pass rush.

My exercise was more a way of taking 15 names out of the equation in one way or another, and see what was potentially left.

If Mendenhall is gone, chances are Stewart is available. If Mckelvin is taken, chances are Db "X" will be still be there at 16... etc, etc.

I gotcha there. The only real problems that I see is that I'd be surprised if Devin Harris was really gone in the Top 12, or that Jeff Otah and Derrick Harvey are gone. IMO, I think you fudged the prospects a little bit to make sure that your favorite RBs and DBs fall down.

I think that 2 RBs, 3 OLs, 2 DTs, 2 DEs (counting Gholston), and 1 LB are off the board in the Top 15. I think that at least 1 cornerback will be off the board. But that's only 10 picks.

The intrigue is if a WR goes in the Top 15 or a 3rd DE, or 2 or more corners. I have no idea.

At this point, I'm kind of hoping that 2 corners (McKelvin and Rogers-Cromartie), 2 RBs (McFadden and Mendenhall), and 4 OL (J. Long, C. Williams, R. Clady, and Branden Albert) go in the top 15 picks, but 0 WRs and only 2 DEs (C. Long and Gholston).

That way, the Cards have a ton of trade leverage, with teams who want to get the best pass rusher available (Harvey) or their pick of WR prospects, calling the Cards.

This is especially true of Harvey is still on the board, since the Vikings would without doubt pick him up, since Erasmus James seems to be a bust and Kenechi Udeze is battling cancer.

I didn't, I can assure you, go through the exercise seeking an outcome. I simply reviewed primary needs and whether this could be filled by those selecting before the Cards.

A wideout for Buffalo is simply because it's suggested both on and off the record in a number of things I've read.

I'd expect that, for some, primary need may be trumped by a great prospect dropping down, but - again... when a team's first need is on the "0" or "D" line according to research... I simply fill the hole with a likely name.

Mendenhall, Stewart, DCR, Jenkins, etc... all rather irrelevent to me.

I've got no horse in this race.

Not the deep ball. If a top ten pick can't throw a deep ball then why is he a top 10 pick?

Again, same thing was said about Leinart. Should he have not been a top 10 pick?

Leinart almost wasn't a top 10 pick. As I said before, at least you can justify picking Leinert there though. He actually had good numbers and won National Championships. Matt Ryan couldn't even win his conference. He didn't even have many games where he threw less than two picks.

True. I understand "this" line of reasoning when deciding on if Leinart was(n't) a top 10 pick. Almost no one expected him to fall as far as he did.

You saying that a top 10 pick should be able throw the "deep ball" is what I was referencing.
