Based on how Vick has been playing, this should be a fun game for the Card's defense. Horton should bring a lot of 4-5 man rushes up the middle and on the right of the O-line, since that's vick's blindside. Blitz on obvious passing downs and make Vick make a mistake. D. Wash would be perfect for the spy if we suspect a QB Draw.

Our corners should do fine against their receivers and TE's. Put PP on Jackson when on Man to man, but mostly do some zone to disrupt the west coast offense.

Horton should contain Vick with Dockett and Campbell, and then send 2-3 guys up the middle since they are having trouble blocking the interior rush. Vick will make a dumb throw multiple times and we might even see a pick 6 from PP. If we blitz, the offensive mistakes will come from Vick.

As far as the Eagle's running game goes, don't do anything different from the last 2 games. McCoy is good, but we should be able to contain him with our from 7, especially with our ILB's in washington and Lenon. All we need to do better is protect against the screen and sweeps.

Special teams: just keep doing what your doing, we have every kicker and punter on our schedule worried. Even if the punts don't get blocked, we have PP ready to return it. It sucks to be a punter against the Cards.

Similar game plan to what they did against the Seahawks. Keep Vick in the pocket and make him beat you with his arm.

Crowd noise will be a factor for the Eagles OL. Especially since they just lost their starting center to IR.

Still the Eagles have weapons on Offense. The Cardinals defense will have to continue to play physical and diciplined football.

This game won't be a technical sell-out. This will be a legit sell-out. It will be loud and rowdy. Our D will ride that noise and force Vick into some mistakes, which he's been prone to doing so far this season.

Ironically, our plan vs. Seattle was a spinoff of what some Cardinal observers refer to as "Michael Vick Rules."

i.e. gap discipline...outside contain...wrapping up...hands up to block passing lanes...a different spy on each down.

Yeah you don't get out of your rush lanes, basically you wall him off in the pocket, keeping balance all across the line and not leaving him a big hole to run through then just let him throw the ball, never let him beat you with his legs.

Yup. I have no problem with letting Patrick Peterson sit on an island with Jeremy Maclin (the actual #1 Philly receiver). I'm terrified of how you match up with DeSean Jackson. I don't trust either of our safeties to hang with him in deep coverage, and I don't trust Gay or Flemming to run with him.

Those crossing routes at 8-15 yards are just KILLER with DeSean Jackson, and once he gets the ball in his hands, he's a real weapon. A real weapon.

I'm also worried about LeSean McCoy, although if you can stymie him (or even let him be productive) early in the game, Reid will forget that he exists.

I hope that the Cards walk in and run the ball on Philly. These guys can be run on. Ray Rice averaged 6.2 YPC against them. You can run on their undersized defensive front-seven. If Ryan Williams can't get a break out game at home against this unit, trucking DRC in the process, then you might as well put him on the shelf for the year and let him learn on the bench.

Philly has just lost their starting centre.

Dumpster Dan may be in position to help with a big push up the middle.

I was in Philly. The first thing I noticed was that D-Wash mirrored Shady McCoy. Eliminate him and then Vick will have to throw it. That's where he fails.

On Defense:
Gap Discipline
Eliminate the Run & Screen Game.
Pressure Vick into mistakes.

On Offense.
Protect the QB
Run the ball
Expose DRC.

And I would lock Patrick Peterson on DeSean Jackson for this reason. As a defense I would prefer to take away the opposing teams best quick strike option and force them to string drives together. Maclin IS the better WR, but DeSean Jackson is their best weapon other than LeSean McCoy.

McCoy is the toughest matchup along w/ Vick IMO. I just don't understand why this team isn't better than what they are.

My basic gameplan, lock Peterson on D Jackson, hit Vick early and often, limit big plays, and don't make turnovers on offense to give the Eagles offense additional chances to score.

Our best friend is we have a fast and athletic defense to matchup with their fast and athletic offense.

Has to be PP21 on Deshean based on speed alone.
Maclin and Fleming match up quite well.
Gay on Avant in the slot.

Honestly we need a perfect game on both sides, the only thing killing the Eagles is Vick's stupidity. The Eagles have the top offense in the NFC(Pre MNF), they have two legit WR and a good TE, oh yeah and we have to deal with McCoy. Don't sell DRC short, only Fitz can take him 1 on 1 and if Philly knows anything they will have Namdi and someone doubling him all game. I don't think our D will be the issue nearly as much as our Offense doing something stupid(like a pitch to williams on 3rd and 13). Let's hope we are prideful, and learned from our mistakes on Sunday.

i play physical with desean at the line. he's 165 lbs soaking wet. i mean beat the tar outta him at the line and bracket him with a safety over the top.

contain, contain, contain on vick. we've always fared pretty well against him when he was more dynamic. should be more of the same.

their TEs, not just Celek, frighten me a bit. though i think we have more athletic better covering safeties and linebackers than we've had in a while.

and of course shady scares me, not so much in the run, but screen. i've always hated the screen against our aggressive front 7.

on offense, i'd just ask beanie to run over drc a whole bunch of times.

and there's something . . . i can't put my finger on it, but something that's telling me we're going to score a defensive TD this week. something in the air wreaks of defensive TD, Cardinals!

I don't think Maclin is anything to be frightened of. He's basically a poor mans Steve Breaston who doesn't pose anywhere the threat as Desean Jackson.

Gay or Fleming should contain him relatively well.

Here's the thing: the offense doesn't run through DeSean Jackson. He's a rich man's Percy Harvin: you aren't going to game plan for him, but you have to give him a chance to get the ball 4-6 times a game. I'd rather roll the dice 4-6 times with William Gay or Jameel Flemming and take away the guy that's going to get 8+ targets for the entire game in Jeremy Maclin.

It doesn't matter, though. The Cards play left-right with their corner alignments, so Peterson's going to be matched up on whomever lines up on the right side of the offense. According to the FO guys, he was covering Julian Edelman for most of the game, and sometimes covering Stevan Ridley when they started splitting him out to that side of the field.

I don't think that Peterson has the flexibility to stick with DeSean Jackson on those routes that he runs in the post and on the deep in and out. Jackson's going to drop easy passes, too. I don't know. I like Peterson a lot, but I'd rather have him covering Hakeem Nicks than Victor Cruz, too.

Which is it? Left or right or covering a player? :mulli: :D

I'm pretty sure they moved PP all over the field yesterday K9 & it sure seemed to me he was matched up with Lloyd a lot yesterday, though I did see him on Edelman some.

You guys are talking about PP on Jackson like its always going to be man to man. Horton likes the zone, which is more effective against the west coast Vick runs.

I'll have to look at the tape today, but Aaron Schatz was in the press box in Foxboro and planned to key on Peterson all day long. Here's what he had to say:

OK, let's talk about Peterson. I am not the kind of person who goes on one game alone, but if I had to decide on one game alone, I am definitely a believer. I am guessing his charting numbers will be much better this season, and his targets will be down. Peterson was in man coverage almost the whole game. Occasionally it was press, occasionally he was giving cushion, usually he was 3-4 yards off. The Cards mostly had single high safety. Sometimes they had no safety. On the last Pats scoring drive to make it 20-18, it looked like they had two safeties. But they are clearly giving him a lot of responsibility. They keep Peterson always on the offensive right, which can be a problem because you can keep away from him by moving your better receivers to the other side. It doesn't seem like putting Peterson on Edelman is the best use of resources, but that's the matchup that we had more than half the time. Otherwise, it was usually Lloyd. Occasionally, the Pats would have no wideouts on the right side and Peterson was sitting over there anyway. A couple times he ended up on Ridley split out. At least later in the game the Cards would move a linebacker out there so Peterson was still on a wideout inside of Ridley.

Not counting plays where Edelman ran a short cross and Peterson came off him and switched with another defender, it looks like the Pats threw only seven passes targeted at Peterson. The first one I mentioned very early on, Peterson seemed to fall for something going on in the backfield, was burned, but when Dockett tipped the pass he got an interception out of it instead of getting burned. From then on, he was mostly stapled to whoever he was covering. Tight coverage all day. The second time they targeted him, it did look like Lloyd had a couple steps, but Brady hung the throw up and Peterson caught up before the pass got there. He was super tight the next two. Lloyd and Edelman each caught a short pass in front of him when he was giving a bit of a cushion, and there was a weird miscommunication between Brady and Lloyd where the pass wasn't really anywhere near Peterson or Lloyd. Overall, I counted him giving up two receptions in seven targets for no first downs. Again, this is just one game, but he looked like a big reason why the Pats' offense was having problems today.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/audibles/2012/audibles-line-week-2

The FO guys do a very cool "Audibles at the Line" column each Monday morning, so it's worth taking a couple of moments during the day to check it out.

It's hard to see numbers on the coach's film, but I'll give it a shot today. If there's a drive that anyone wants to see, let me know and I'll let you know what I notice.

Not that I know of. I'll ask Schatz on twitter. I'd love it if they did, but I'm guessing he'll say we should read the site. :D

I don't think Maclin plays, but whoever said he is not good is wrong.

His hipflexor is messed up.
