So much attention has been on Cam Ward this week with the New Orleans Saints sending a big party to the Miami Hurricanes' pro day, but we might be looking at the wrong quarterback. At least according to Shedeur Sanders' famous father. Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders dismissed rumors that his son is favoring any particular destination in the 2025 NFL draft during an appearance on Skip Bayless' YouTube show, and the Saints were a telling inclusion.
"Shedeur has talked to me intently about all the visits with all the teams he's had, so I know where his heart is and where he wants to go," Sanders said. "If it's New York, it's New York. If it's Tennessee, if it's Cleveland, if it's still the Raiders, if it's New Orleans, if it's any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback, I'm happy with it, man, because I know what he's going to do to the organization. I know what he's going to do."
It's the right move for Sanders to squash those rumors about not wanting to go to one team or another; ultimately it's out of his control. If the Titans like him better than Ward or the Browns are determined to pick him at No. 2, that's where he'll go. Maybe the Raiders trade up for him from No. 6. Maybe the Saints move up from No. 9, but it's tough to see both the New York Giants and New York Jets letting him fall that far. What's clear is that Sanders isn't going to pull a dramatic Eli Manning-style power play to get his son to one particular team.
Either way, Sanders mentioning the Saints confirmed what's been suspected: Kellen Moore knows his team needs a quarterback of the future. Maybe that means he'll have to trade the world for Ward or Sanders. Maybe he'll have to sit and watch as the Titans and Browns refuse to budge, or another team outbids them. But everyone knows the Saints are in the market for a young QB to build around, like Sanders, and sooner or later they'll have to get one.
