Colorado's Shedeur Sanders is expected to be the second quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL draft.
Many teams that once were high on the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders have softened their stance over time as the elder Sanders stated he would have to approve of the team that drafts his son.
Deion said early on in the process that he wants the "right fit" for his son and could pull an "Eli," referring to Eli Manning, who in 2004 had his father, Archie, advising him not to sign with the team that drafted him, the San Diego Chargers, forcing the historic trade with the Giants.
But Sanders, who was also Shedeur's coach at Colorado, has backed off his stance recently. In an interview with Skip Bayless, Deion said he's ready to accept the results of the draft.
"Shedeur has told me, he's talked to me intently about all the visits he's had with all the teams, so I know where his heart is, I know where he wants to go," Sanders said in an interview with "The Skip Bayless Show." "If it's New York, it's New York, if it's Tennessee, if it's Cleveland, if it's still the Raiders, if it's New Orleans, if it's any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback, I'm happy with it, man. Because I know what he's going to do to the organization."
Perhaps the fact that Miami's Cam Ward has put some distance between him and Sanders in the quarterback rankings recently changed Deion's mind a bit. Some expert mock drafts have Shedeur going as high as second overall, while others have him dropping down the draft order.
In the Bayless interview, Sanders said more than once that he would not try to influence his son.
"No, no, no," he said. "Because that's not God's will right now. I want Shedeur to do what he's consistently done -- excel against all odds. I like the hating, I like the naysaying, I like the ignorance because it makes us feel better about what we do and it gives him another chip on his shoulder."
The fact is, there is no hating right now. Shedeur has impressed in interviews and has been nothing but professional. No one has seen him work out as of yet. That will happen at Colorado's pro day on April 4.
The teams with the top two selections in the draft -- Tennessee and Cleveland -- have set up private workouts with Sanders which will take place after his pro day. The New York Giants, who hold the third pick, have yet to schedule Sanders for a private workout but are expected to host him on a Top 30 visit.
