They're gonna do some shots of the roof raising as well. I just flipped on the channel and saw the promo.

OK, looks like we have a full-on Travis Henry/LJ Shelton rumor now. Rich Eisen asked Green about it. Green smiled, laughed, and basically went on to say no comment.

Lots of discussion about running backs. Green said they'll get their runner through trade, FA, draft, or the rehab of Marcel Shipp. He said either way he'll have a competent runner that can be "the guy" for 3,4,5, or 6 years (i.e. He wants a long-term answer at RB).

They talked about the roof, how it's good for the Bidwills, symbolic for the organization, and a lure for FAs, knowing they'll be playing in the best NFL stadium ever built.

Talk was brief about the draft. Green stressed the need for wins now. Wins meaning wins in free agency, wins in trading, wins in the draft, wins in the stadium finishing, etc. He did say they'll care less about position and more about BPA... same strategy that last year got us 4 starters with our first 4 picks.

Says McCown's the starter. Said he had a so-so year, and said the team also had a so-so year. Says the team needs to rally around McCown and play better around him and he'll be a great starter.

Talked briefly about the new logo. Green said it's the organization's way of getting behind the coach, determined bird eying the playoffs. I like that :)

Anyway, good interview, great shots of the roof being raised, and a few clips of Mike Bidwill along the way. Apparently the roof piece that was raised was the largest lift in North-American history, and it weighs in at just about the same weight as the entire Eifel Tower.

Good stuff :)

There's a joke in there somewhere about Green's weight, I just know it. I'm too tired to try and figure out where it is, though. Something about him lifting that weight out of bed every morning...

ah, I got nothin'. Carry on.

Yeah, he pretty much did say nothing on the specifics (and said as much "We won't get into specific players")

However what I found a little interesting was that on the topic of the trade he mentioned trying to get draft picks. I wonder if he's trying to get an extra pick in the Henry trade or if he prefers just to get a draft pick instead.

Or are we currently trying to trade other players as well for draft picks, or trying to trade down, or even both.

Thats right, he did say that they were looking to add draft picks.

He said that they have players, not naming names, that they believe are NFL caliber but that they are looking to move.

Entirely possible although I don't see Dennis Green as a much of trader on draft day (he seems to want to stay where we are and draft BPA, although anything is possible).

I just found it a tad odd that while talking about the LJ/Henry trade rumor that he'd bring up getting as many draft picks as possible. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it

Dennis Green's interview from NFL Net today is available at NFL.Com for anyone who'd like to see it. It's about 9 minutes long.

I agree. Remember, we still have Wendell Bryant, Ray Thompson, & Duane Starks on the team. I don't see Starks going anywhere, but I definitely see Bryant and Thompson moving on... if not a trade, out right cutting them. I'd love to see us trade Bryant for a late round pick, say 5th or 6th round, and trade Thompson for a 3rd. If we did that, it'd be great.

I really like the thought of adding picks. The draft may be Green's biggest strength. This organization is changing. I remember for years listening to possible moves, trades, or free agent signings with very few coming to fruition. I like the Henry trade, because it is proactive. We will probably mess up on a few moves, but the fact that we are trying convinces me that times are a changin' and we need to ready ourselves for a run at the playoffs this year, and a run in the playoffs over the next few years.

WBryant is probably the least productive first round selection for the Cards in 15 years. At least Tom Knight actually got out on the field and played. Thomas Jones at least scored some TD's.

The guy got paid millions to do basically nothing.
What a business, the NFL.

That's the impression I got.

His comment on the value of draft picks in a trade was curious - perhaps a way of trying to leverage our various trade options by sending a subtle message to prospective trading partners.

Separate topic: It seemed to me that - compared to most of the interviews he does with other players and coaches - Rich Eisen seemed less relaxed (& even a bit ill-at-ease) in his interview with Dennis. He always seems to yuk it up with various players and coaches like Mora and Herm Edwards, but he seemed somewhat more formal in the way he asked questions of Green. Anyone else get the same feeling?

Green's an intimidating guy. I assume there's a respect issue there as well. They did work together at ESPN, so maybe theres something to it. I noticed the same thing too, Jeff.

Rich Eisen is great at reading from a teleprompter; however, he blows at interviews. He actually reminds me alot of Conan O'Brien when he first started out. You could just see the awkwardness as he asked questions to his guests. Conan improved. I haven't seen it yet from Rich.

Go Cards!!!

Thanks that was good to watch, Green certainly can convince you good things are coming soon.
