2 separate Adam Schefter columns, first is about Portis saying he will not play for 380K this year and will probably hold out if his contract isn't taken care of.

Second is about Al Wilson, MLB extraordinaire, breaking off contract talks (after reportedly being close to signing) and saying he will not sign before free agency begins because "it doesn't look like it's going to get done." Also quotes Portis saying they can't lose Wilson, ironic given his contract demands factor in.

Right now Broncs fans seem to think Wilson may be gone, and Portis will be easily taken care of they'll redo some other deals, make the caproom, and give him the new deal.

Shall I start the Shipp for Portis trade rumor (-:

Yeah the problem there is his contract gets a lot bigger in the future (year 3 I think) so then the new Portis deal and Wilson etc become a problem. Jake's deal has no impact this year but it absolutely impacts their ability to keep Wilson and Portis down the line.

Yep. Denver backloaded the crap out of plummer's contract. If he isn't the spitting image of Joe Montana this coming year, he has to be restructured or cut. It was basically a "get out of jake, free" card for shanahan if Plummer plays awful for the Broncos.

The problem is though that if he plays even half way decent they'll be screwed.

Yes Russ, start the Marcel Shipp, Adrian Wilson and next years 2nd round pick to the Denver Broncos for Clinton Portis. That way we could stay at 3 or move back to grab Sean Taylor or Kenechi Udeze. Then snag Poole in the second round because he wil be available. Go ahead Russ I dare you to start that rumor.

If we were to grab Taylor and Poole in the draft, Winfield or Plummer or Vincent in free agency, and have Starks play healthy (biggest stretch of all of this) then I only have two words for all of you: Coverage Sack.

What's odd to me is a lot of Denver fans don't seem all that concerned with Portis' stance. They are so used to plugging in a RB and watching him excel, that even though they recognize how good Portis is, they aren't afraid to lose him. I gotta admit that would be AWFULLY nice to feel that was as a Card fan once in a while.

My guess is they'll keep Portis.

Here's my favorite trade Portis idea from the Bronco board;

But say, for arguements sake, Arizona turn to the Broncos on draft day and say, OK, we'll give you the 3rd overall pick this year as well as next year and this year's second round pick for Portis?

We then have two first and second rounders this year, as well as two first rounders next year.........

Sure sounds like this guy doesn't have a lot of respect for Green and Graves does it?

Ian Gold is another good Denv LB who is an UFA.

Picking up either one would be an upgrade.

For a number of years now, the Broncos have enjoyed a pretty good reputation among players--it's been a place where they want to play. If they continue to muck things up with Portis and Wilson (particularly in Portis' case), I think quite a bit of that luster will have worn off.

I would be all over wilson if he was available....we could use him....green said he wanted strength up the middle...so on defense that would be dtackle and middle linebacker...

raynoch thompson and wilson were teammates at tennesee..FYI..

Wilson is the player that would hurt the most if Denver lost him because he is the heart and soul of their defense. I would love it if the Cardinals went after Al Wilson because he is very versatile and isn't injury prone. Sticks like a freight train as well.

Sign Al Wilson and Troy Vincent and I will be a very happy man.

Wilson has bad shoulders, and he didn't miss anytime, but they might have been bothering him this year. His tackling looked like it was regressing back to his first couple seasons where he'd go for a big hit and not wrap up.

Class act, but Denver shoud pay him anyway. it's the right thing to do.

It's an interesting article but right now I think it's spin by Portis. Schefter says he has Portis' comments on tape so apparently he DID say he wouldn't report to camp if he wasn't happy. He may have changed his mind, but even in that article first he says he was "suckered" into saying things, and then says he didn't actually say them.

Portis is an outspoken guy, always has been, I'd bet he said exactly what Schefter says he did. He's allowed to change his mind but he should say so instead of saying he never said it.
