Deone Bucannon had his first NFL interception Sunday night and returned it for a touchdown for the first time in his life.
Another first came on Wednesday when the second-year Cardinals safety won his inaugural NFC Defensive Player of the Week award. Bucannon picked off Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford and raced 39 yards for a score to give the Cardinals a 37-10 lead early in the fourth quarter of a blowout win.

Good for him. I've seen some criticism around here but I think the kid is a baller.

He is a solid draft pick and what this team embodies down to Fitz switching to the slot because they realize it is about team.. but Patrick Peterson should get freaking NFC player of the week every dang week for shutting down the other team's top WR but that one highlight TD is what the public wants

Congrats to him, and complete horse**** that we didn't get both POTW awards. DJ was far more impressive than Scam.

If Swearinger works out, maybe they ask Buc to put on 15 / 20 pounds in the offseason and stay at ILB.

I'm really hopeful that Swearinger works out, not just for the remainder of the season but for next year.

I don't know, Cam was the first player in history to throw for 300 yards, 5 TDs, & rush for 100 yards in the same game. That's pretty impressive, too.

Swearinger just needs to get his head screwed on straight. If he can do it anywhere, it's here. Is there a better locker room and group of leaders than we have? I seriously doubt it. Could be a steal of a pickup if he just "gets it". Let's hope.

I totally agree with you Brak. He is in the perfect place to succeed. He has the leadership on and off the field that he needs. He has a wonderful coaching group willing to teach. And he can see that there are financial and career benefits here from playing in a great organization, and having great team mates. Plus the amenities and the weather aren't bad either.

Let's hope swearinger can learn from being cut and recognizes that he needs to mature some and control himself and just play football. This is the best opportunity he is going to get.

Looks like Bucannon is fitting in well and having an impact for us.

One of the cool things about getting all these prime time games is the exposure our players are getting.

Another cool thing is you hear the announcers talk about our players which gives you insight on what others are seeing and also what our coaches think about them. For example Bucannon has been getting discussed during games and the comments have been numerous and very complimentary. Which some of the analysts it's based on their film study but mostly it's based on their interviews with the coaching staff.

This means that Bettcher and or BA have been talking up Bucannon which means they are thrilled with his performance. Now some fans have bashed Buc for not making impactful plays etc. but the coaches do not agree.

Now we see Buc getting DPOW award which cements what the coaches have been saying all along.

Ridic. Cam is a stud, period. You don't have to like it, but you should recognize good football. He threw for 300+, ran for 100+, and threw 5 TD's. What more can you ask from a football player?

I've been saying it since his rookie year, he's an exceptional player. People criticized me several weeks ago saying Carolina was a force and Cam was the reason. He's an awesome football player, just awesome.

People continue to say he's a sub-par passer, I've had this argument for weeks and weeks, perhaps months. I love completion %age, it's one stat I've held on to for a QB, for years, but this guy makes plays when it matters. He's throwing darts to average, at best, receivers and has a ton of drops, yet he keeps putting it on them, and I really do mean putting it on them (old Favre style with rocket balls). When they beat Seattle so early in the year I knew, he was putting balls on dudes and hitting them in the chest to win the game, he wouldn't let them lose.

And it's a total joke that people hate on his celebrations. Criticize a dude for being down on the sidelines earlier in his career right, like he has such a bad demeanor, and now hate on him for having fun. Can't have it both ways. People are hypocrites. Then last week, when the Giants scored with little time remaining, you look at Cam on the sidelines and he's just chewing gum and nodding, like we got this, and he went out and did it. That's what great QB's do.

Cam Newton is a new era QB. He's exceptional. The scary thing is, he's not, as some of you put it, a great pocket QB, and maybe so, but he's so young, and he's so awesome and will learn that. Reminds me of a Randall Cunningham or a Warren Moon quite frankly, only way better. Way better.

Cam Newton is a force in the NFL. He's a new era QB. Just because some of you don't comprehend what he's doing doesn't change it. I'm fairly old and love QB's like Carson Palmer, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady. But I know talent when I see it. I know change when I see it. Cam Newton is the change. He's awesome.

Excellent! I love DB getting some recognition like this. I mean, he's really excelling at doing something that, if we're honest, most players couldn't handle.

Wait a minute, Randall yes but the only thing he shares with Moon is being black because Moon was a pocket passer... maybe McNair and I do not think it means a preferred change because those guys before did not cause a revolution either when a traditional stud passer was available, but colleges are not offering the preferred choices at the quarterback position :)
