Derek got a 6yr $37million deal with G.S. Man do I hope it will be part of some sign and trade deal for Dampier. Seems like the samrtest thing for both teams. It would give G.S. the guy they want anyway, and it would also keep their Mid level exemption free to get some one else. I know, I know, wishful thinking.

Thoughts?

WOW 6mil a year for Fisher. I guess the Lakers didn't want to pay him the 9mil he was asking.

I agree. 6 million a year is a lot for a guy who has never averaged more than 11 points and 4 assists.

He sucks at finishing at the rim. He's a streak shooter, as well. Man, GS has Claxton, Nick the Quick and DS. That's a logjam.

They figure with the logjam at SG they need the PG position to go with it.

I think Fisher will be a good fit for GS. They really need a point guard, steaky or not. GS can be a fun team to watch... Hope they do better then the Lakers!

It certainly sounds like the Warriors have found someone interested in Van Exel's expiring contract.

I think that paying fisher over 6 mil a year is preposterous. Just becuase he is an ex-laker doesnt make him more special then anyone else

I'm beginning to think Nash was actually pretty cheap.

Well, Chris Mullin is getting a big, fat "F" grade from me for free agency. He has probably overpaid by double what his free-agent signings were worth. He has something like $90 million tied up in Foyle and Fisher over the next six seasons. That's just awful.

Nearly $80m, anyway.

The Suns have 'only' spent $110m for Nash and Q. If they'd spent that money on Fisher and Foyle instead (with enough money left over for what, Turkoglu?) I would be hopping mad. :hulk:

The strange thing is, the Warriors are starting to do a decent job sticking to BPA in the draft. To turn around and blow their future flexibility on a couple of role players like this is baffling.

So how does the Warriors cap situation look? And what does this say about Dampier? Can they even do a sign and trade?

I'm still not 100% sure of how this works, but here's what I think has happened:

1. The Warriors kept their rights to Foyle and Dampier, which kept them technically over the cap.

2. Since they were technically over the cap, they still had their MLE.

3. They re-signed Foyle using the Bird exception.

4. Fisher's contract represents (apparently) all of the MLE.

5. They still have Dampier's rights and thus can sign-and-trade him if all parties agree.

That certainly rings true to me.

BTW, if the Suns had not moved White, I felt the Suns might have been well off to have retained Dice's rights, used their MLE on Brent Barry, and signed Dice to a big one year deal. I'm not sure if would have worked better, but it is the equivalent of what the Warriors are trying to do.

Antonio McDyess would not have signed a big one-year contract. He just got a nice multi-year contract from the defending champions. Brent Barry signed a reasonable contract with San Antonio because he wants to go for a championship. He would have cost a team like the Phoenix Suns much more.
