The U of Miami crowd is revisiting the Derek Shaw defection to Arizona from last year, because of the last moment defection of another QB, Pat Devlin to Penn State. The following comment was made on the Miami Forum.

"What I hate are writers that don't do their homework and there are plenty of them out there in the recruiting world. Next to signing Kenny Phillips, the best thing that happened to us last recruiting season was the Shaw decommitment. He was a total bust this past season. at ASU. The ASU coaching staff would gladly give him back to us and he won't even have to sit out a year."

and...

"It doesn't take a coaching staff 4 years to find out whether a kid has what it takes .The ASU coaching staff didn't like what they saw. When their starting qb was lost for the year in October, he was replaced by an unheralded freshman qb who played great.Coaches don't play an unheralded freshman qb over the hotshot freshman qb unless the hotshot stinks. I live on the west coast and I follow the Pac 10 . It was over 3 months ago that I first started reading stories that the ASU coaching staff was unhappy with Shaw."

So what gives with Derek Shaw? Are either of these comments on target or just wild rantings?

I live in Boca too Wally and i can tell you this after listining to talk radio and getting to know this area....

None of the fans of the "U" actually ever attended the school

They think they are Gods gift to College Football

They are a very uniformed bitter populace....some of the crap that comes out of these peoples mouth is hysterical....

Long Live Larry Coker Canes fans.....it will only be a couple more years before he completly destroys your program....and then ASU will hire him after another poor Koetter season....:D

But this is likely just sour grapes....i have heard that Shaw is the best physical specimen ever to play in Tempe at that position, and ASU has a pretty good pedigree....

And Carpenter is no bum....i heard Shaw is taking time to learn Koetters system (for all his gifts he may not be the sharpest tool in the shed) but in the NCAA you can get away with being physically better than everyone else and Koetters offense was made for a kid like Shaw....

Like i keep saying Keller next year and then Shaw takes over.....followed by Rudy transferring...(although i think he is a great QB but i love the other two guys)

Yeah, I haven't heard anything about Shaw struggling with anything except picking up the system either and that was only when he first got to campus. And those close to the prgram are expecting Shaw to take over in 2007 after Keller graduates. Sounds like UM sour grapes to me.

I listen to sports radio here everyday and read a couple of ASU boards. I've never heard anything to confirm that.

All the pundits were saying the same thing about R Carpenter during his first chance at summer and spring camps...Well, how'd that turn out? Shaw is the most talented of the qb's, but heck it even took Andrew Walter a while to learn Koetter's offense...Walter didn't earn his first start for Koetter until the 4th game(?) of his second year under Koetter.

Well, most programs would like to save a redshirt year for their true freshmen, if that is possible to do...And in ASU's case, they actually had the depth at qb to achieve that goal...The results speak for themselves.

And BTW, UCLA wanted RC pretty badly...
