Try guessing the Year:

Cards were 6-5-1 that year, but did play the 1st place Rams twice, beating them once and tying them the 2nd time. Rams only lost one other game that regular season.

Bonus hint of my YoB: #1 song for the year was Riders in the Sky

Their record was 4-9-1. The song was The Lion Sleeps Tonight & #2 & 3 was The Twist & The Peppermint Twist. Must have been the year of the Twist.

It was the year after the Benny Goodman Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert.

Strictly a guess - Cards may have been hq'd in Racine, Wisc.

The 1974 St. Louis Cardinals season was the team's 55th year with the National Football League and the 15th season in St. Louis. The Cardinals scored 285 points while the defense gave up 218 points, en route to the NFC East Championship.[1]

The 10–4 Cardinals qualified for the postseason for the first time since 1948when the franchise was based in Chicago. It was the Cardinals first winning season since 1970 when the Cardinals went 8–5–1.[1] Although the Cardinals and the Washington Redskinsfinished with identical 10–4 records, the Cardinals won the NFC East title, because of their two victories over Washington that season.

The Cardinals won their first seven games, and were at least tied for first place from Week One to the end of the regular season.

Cardinals were 9-5-0, 3rd in the Eastern Conference, yet missed the playoffs.

Top song of that year was inexplicably this one:

The Cards were never based in Racine, that reference was to the street in Chicago (Racine St.) where they played at the time.

They were 10-4 and didn't make the playoffs! Wow! Dallas screwed them out of the playoffs.

The St. Louis Cardinals season was the team's 45th year with the National Football League (NFL) and the fifth season in St. Louis.

The Cardinals (9–3–2) were the runner-up in the Eastern Conference, finishing a half game behind the Cleveland Browns (10–3–1), who won the NFL championship game on December 27. The Cardinals tied the Browns in Cleveland in September and defeated them in St. Louis in December.

As the conference runner-up, the Cardinals played the Green Bay Packers of the Western Conference in the third place Playoff Bowl in Miami, Florida. Held on January 3 at the Orange Bowl, St. Louis won in an upset, 24–17.[1][2][3] It was the Cardinals' only appearance after the regular season between 1948 and 1974.

As for music, ("I Want to Hold Your Hand" was replaced at number one by "She Loves You" which was in turn replaced by "Can't Buy Me Love") for a historic Beatles record breaking year.

I knew sooner or later you'd get around to maneuvering me into revealing my age. Still this is so gracious I can't resist. The Cards went 9-3 and won their second NFL championship. No, they weren't in St. Louis! If I'd have known then how long it would be until the next one I might have picked a different team. In fairness they were good the next year.

Cards were 7-7 and beat the Cowboys 31-17 the day after I was born. The number 1 hit was 'Runaround Sue'.

The Cardinals got off to a good start, and tied the Cleveland Browns 33–33 on the road. They finished 9–4–1 and second in the Eastern Conference, but a victory by the Browns over the New York Giants denied them a playoff berth. The team finished the year with a meaningless win over the Packers.
