The Twins called within hours.
When the Arizona Diamondbacks released right-handed pitcher Andrew Good in November, he thought some teams would get in touch. At least, he hoped so. It didn't take long.
The first team to call was the Minnesota Twins. We want you to compete for a spot in the starting rotation, they said.
Thanks, said Good, will let you know.
"It was a tough situation to say I was going to bide my time for a while," he said.
"The Twins were very aggressive. They made a good pitch for me."
Other teams called -- the Colorado Rockies, for instance. By now it was apparent Good wouldn't have a problem finding another job.
After all, despite a 5.30 ERA in parts of two years, there'd been some impressive outings -- the best being a Sunday night game at Dodger Stadium on ESPN in 2003 in which he allowed one run, unearned, in six innings.
