Former New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty believes big things are on the horizon for Patriots All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez.
He stated his case with a bold prediction in a recent appearance on Tom Curran's "Patriots Talk Podcast."
"Soon to be $30 million a year corner, if I'm Christian Gonzalez? $35 [million]? I think after this year, I think his name gets mentioned [No.] 1 or 2, when you talk about top corners in the league," said McCourty. "I think they don't really play on any primetime games.
"They don't really have big games, so people didn't really get to watch what he did, obviously as a rookie but especially last year."
Gonzalez is coming off a stellar 2024 season that saw him tally 59 tackles, 11 pass deflections and two interceptions. It was a solid sophomore season after his rookie campaign was cut short due to injury.
The Patriots have historically developed strong corners, and Gonzalez is taking that conversation to another level. Derek Stingley Jr. reset the cornerback market with a three-year, $90 million extension with the Houston Texans. However, that record might not stand for long.
Gonzalez is contract extension eligible in 2026. If the arrow on his talent continues to trend upward, he could be in a position to reset the market again.
