Why are they sending Gonzo with less than two outs? That kid has a gun. Stupid!

Chipper homers but Clayton gets a big hit to put the Diamondbacks in front 3-2.

The bottom of the third inning has turned into a nightmare. Braves have scored 7 runs and there are still no outs. Javy had another bad outting. Bruney in.

Why was Cormier out there again today for 2 innings? Is this some part of Melvin's macabre experiment in destroying young players? Cormier needs a long break - he's been doing worse than Koplove for the last several weeks, and he probably should have gone down - but Koppy complains about being misused, and younger pitchers don't dare.

Whatever we thought about Al Pedrique, he was the best 3rd base coach we've ever had. Tosca is looking pretty incompetent - first the hidden ball trick, and he gets three guys thrown out at the plate by Francoeur in two days! He must also think Gonzo still has youthful speed or something.

During the highlights on Baseball Tonight, they showed Gonzo getting thrown out twice at home and they said he ran through the stop sign on the second attempt to score.

Melvins use of the Bullpen, and ability to leave a Starter in to give up 9ER is unnerving. If Melvin could do a half decent job coaching as Bobby Cox does, wed be in first place and 10 games above .500. Not saying wed be great, but jeez. The braves are playing with a scrapier team than we are and they are doing fine. WHY? because of their manager!

Heh, I knew somebody was going to complain. Bruney had already been used for two innings, Groom had been used the last two days, Aquino was unavailable due to the ball hitting him in the arm the night before, and Lyon is just coming back from injury so you'd rather not push him. So with all those pitchers either unavailable or at risk for being overused themselves, it was practically impossible to get the four or five needed innings out of the pen without using Cormier or abusing somebody else.

I guess you're right - I thought Cormier had been put in before Bruney - if Bruney hadn't been such a disaster he might have been worked longer. (What is HE still doing up here? Looking for 40-man roster space in the off-season? Start here.) I'd have rather seen Worrell get abused, in any case. Just feels like this team ruins one or two young arms a season from preventable excessive wear.

Really, we need a back-up starter/janitor, who doesn't get used except to bail out starters when they flop before the 4th inning, or to mop up blow-outs - goes 4-5 innings at a stretch once a week or so. Not all teams could justify such a use of a roster spot, but we can! maybe we can revolutionize baseball.

This is all true, however, Tim Worrell was still available... Therefore, he could have at least pitched 2 innings himself (since he's been seldom used since the Dbacks acquired him)... Didnt they acquire him for a reason? To provide the Dbacks with that veteran arm to help stabilize the bullpen? That's the essentially another reason they obtained Groom as well (besides being the lefty-specialist out of the 'pen)..... Both should be used to spare the younger arms such as Cormier, but unfortunately they both have been used sparingly to some degree...In fact... Worrell hadnt seen action since the 10th (Wed), but we all know that Cormier lost the night before.... Even if Cormier had to pitch regardless.. it should have been the other way around... Worrell should have been brought in for 2-innings (since he was more rested) and then Cormier for just 1 mere inning, but of course Melvin continues to defy logic and do everything totally opposite than he should have....
