2:37pm: The D’Backs are nearing a deal involving Miley, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports tweets.

12:26pm: Arizona appears to be after young pitching in return, Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports.

9:14am: The Diamondbacks are listening to offers for starter Wade Miley, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports on Twitter. Arizona appears to have at least some inclination to move him, as the club is attempting to drop its payroll under the $90MM threshold.

Miley, 28, is in his first of three seasons of arbitratration eligibility. The lefty has been a sturdy presence in the D’Backs rotation over the past three seasons, posting a total of 598 2/3 innings at a 3.74 ERA clip over that stretch. Though his results took a step backward last year, ERA estimators suggested he was much the same pitcher, if not better. Indeed, Miley also managed a career-best 8.2 K/9.

Of course, with that kind of volume of productive innings, Miley’s arbitration earnings will not be low. MLBTR and Matt Swartz project that he will take home $4.3MM this year, and that number will only rise in future seasons.

Nevertheless, Miley is a durable, controllable starter who figures to draw plenty of suitors. The Red Sox, Marlins, Blue Jays, and Rangers are already said to have some interest. Of course, the same things that make him attractive to other clubs presumably make him a nice commodity to the D’Backs, so it remains to be seen how serious the club is about striking a deal.

WOW, will we even reconize this team next year? How long before Goldy wants out to play for a contender?

why? makes no sense. the only pitcher on the roster worth a **** over the past few years. he's young, a lefty, under team control. unless we're getting some sweet prospect, this is ridiculous.

Agreed.

This makes no sense.

Unless they make whomever take Cahill and Ross

Wade Miley | ARZ
(December 10, 2014 4:01 PM EST)
Sean McAdam of CSN New England heard from an opposing-team source that the Red Sox are close to acquiring starter Wade Miley from the Diamondbacks.
That was quick. The Red Sox lost out on Jon Lester late Tuesday night, so they turned their attention to the trade block and are now preparing a trade package that will pluck the 28-year-old Miley out of Arizona. Miley had a 4.34 ERA in 33 starts this past season for the Diamondbacks, but Chase Field plays extremely hitter-friendly. He struck out 183 batters in 201 1/3 innings.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox are not involved in trade talks for Wade Miley.
This report from Nightengale conflicts what many others are saying. Including Sean McAdam of CSN New England and Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, both of whom tweeted that Miley is close to being dealt to Boston. Nightengale says the Marlins are still in the mix to get the 28-year-old left-hander from Arizona. Things are getting nutty at the Winter Meetings.

the fallout of the Redsox losing to the Cubs in the Lester sweepstakes.

Just like Montero being the fallout of us losing Martin.

You guys could get some nice pieces back..not sure where the team is as far as rebuilding or at least retooling. But teams obviously want what u got.

I've read TEX is interested in Miley and Cahill as a back up. Miley alone should fetch a decent return (not advocating a trade) but including Cahill will lower the return unless $$$ is included and we know that ain't happening with ARZ.

Love it. When the DBacks screwed up it was Towers' fault, now with a new GM, it is kendrick's fault. Genius.

Kendrick is guiding these moves (ie. nixed LA deal), you think Stewart & La Russa want to cut payroll and trade away most of their roster. La Russa is a competitor, what's left of this team is not going to be remotely competitive. I think letting Towers run this team into the ground while saddling the team with bad contracts is what made Kendrick say enough is enough and now he is gutting this team correcting mistakes he let Towers make.

The only plan I could see, is that ARZ figured they were not going to be competitive for at least a couple of years so they are trying to gut the team and hope that teams take their garbage and build their roster out of their high draft picks. It's the same model KC, PIT, MIA, etc used.

Considering that the whole front office is saying they expect a .500 season? Yes, I'm going against what they are saying and we will lose 100 games

@Ken_Rosenthal: #RedSox have agreement in principle for #DBacks’ Miley, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. AZ will get Webster, De La Rosa and a minor leaguer.

I actually like this trade. It will be interesting to see who the minor leaguer is.

Cracks me up how people here react - in over the top fashion... LaRussa only knows one thing - winning. He is the most competitive guy in the game, bar none. And he didn't come to AZ to do anything but that - WIN!
It's easy for us arm-chair know nothings to play GM. It's fun... However, I'm gonna trust a Hall of Famer who has an impeccable resume of winning. If he feels dealing Miley is what's needed, I'm down with him until he proves unworthy of my support.
Sad to se Miley go. But seriously, with Miley where were we going?? Go Tony!!

C'mon Joe. Seriously brother. I get what you are saying, I do, but LaRussa is a HOF manager....not a HOF GM.

Who the eff is going to pitch this year???? Who is going to catch?

Miley was a good piece to have, not get rid of. He was part of the solution not the problem. We are giving away everything and getting nothing. I have no problem seeing Miggy go as long as there is a replacement. Right now there isn't. I hate seeing Miley go but again there is no replacement.

What are we going out with next year? Corbin off a Tommy John? Arroyo off a Tommy John? Cahill's goofy ass? De La Rosa is worse than Miley. Delgado? Daniel Hudson after TWO Tommy John's?? Hudson sucked BEFORE his injuries.

I guess it's the Bradley and Shipley era now. Good luck guys.

Brian, like I said - with Miley, where was this team going?
I don't know what LaRussa and Stewart have up their sleeves, but clearly they have a plan. They are not sitting still. They have carved out a path and like I said, until proven otherwise, they have my trust.
Next year we were going to suck with or without Miley. With or without Miggy. 2016 is the year we all should begin hold LaRussa and Stewart accountable and expect improvement as measured by wins, not 2015...
So yea, we are going to have to buckle in and prepare for a lot of ugliness this coming season. But really, once they dumped KT and Gibby and brought in Tony and Dave Stewart, did you expect anything different for 2015? They are doing what all new GM's and Baseball Ops guys do - they planned their work and are now working their plan. Patience bro... Patience...
