Great pickup for the Snakes. Allows them to develop Allen for another year, gets them a lefty bat to break up Upton and Reynolds, forces Byrnes out, and forces Jackson to stay in left and he won't be moved all about.

Id hope the D'backs lineup on opening day is:

SS Drew L
LF Jackson R
RF Upton R
1B LaRoche L
3B Reynolds R
C Montero L
CF Young R
2B Johnson L

That's a line up I'd be happy with. Just concerned with Drew in the leadoff spot. But he's probably the best suited for what we have.

If Young can do anything at all that lineup looks nice. If he magically gained 50 IQ points during the off season he could even lead off.

Maybe they can get a serviceable relief pitcher for Snyder.

If we're counting a ton on our #7 hitter we're screwed anyway, so I think people are over worrying about CY in this thread. I have hope he can be an every day player, maybe he'll get it figured out this year if a lineup is finally cemented and stuck with.

Yeah, but if he hits .190 again I want Parra.

I'm for Parra in CF.

Even if Young could magically gain 50 IQ points, he's not a leadoff hitter.

Ideally the 7th batter in the order has speed as sort of a second leadoff hitter.

The leadoff hitter takes pitches for his teammates to see and isn't afraid to hit with two strikes. Not a wild swinger who wastes outs with popups.

That's why, once upon a time Craig Counsell replaced Tony Womack.

Maybe the Dbacks could figure out a way to steal B J Upton to play CF and lead off?

The Tampa Bay Rays and centerfielder B.J. Upton could not come to an agreement on a contract for 2010, reports the Tampa Tribune, which could make for an uncomfortable, if not downright ugly, situation.

Arbitration hearings can be quite nasty in nature, and with the two sides reportedly haggling over just $300,000, things could get delicate if this makes it to the arbitrator.

At some point soon the Rays may consider trading Upton as outfield prospect Desmond Jennings continues to develop, and that time could come as early as this season. Upton is starting to make some real money and Jennings is on the cusp of the big leagues.

We have to assume clubs would line up to bid on Upton, despite a disappointing 2009. He's displayed star traits in the past, including a huge postseason two years ago when he helped the Rays make it to the World Series.

TB would ask probably ask for his little brother. To be honest, I am worried that we are not going to be able to keep Justin from BOS & NY when he becomes a FA.

I thought maybe having both of them would keep that from happening.

I can't imagine the D'backs could afford BJ Upton, unless they moved CYs contract, but why would the Rays do that trade?

There was recently an article in the Republic of the D'backs already being up against it salary wise, nearing the $80M mark that they said they won't exceed. I would love the Snakes to bring in someone like Ben Sheets but even though he's damaged goods I imagine he'll be too pricey for AZ.
