Throws left - bats right. Interesting.

Terrible signing. I want Towers gone now. Also, I can't see Upton staying now.

As I posted on the other Cody Ross thread, Kubel is the most likely AZ OF to be dealt, ESPN is reporting ARZ is in talks for a deal for Kubel, maybe TEX who lost out on Ross & Hamilton or maybe BOS to replace Ross. Maybe they can get a stud pitching prospect to replace the one they gave away a week ago. Maybe a young 3B which seems like the last item on Tower's offseason list.

Yeah, I'm ok with it. Kubel will be traded, and Ross isn't very good against RHP. I anticipate a lot of platooning between Ross/Parra, which I'd be fine with. Parra can also sub in CF as well.

If its a means to an end I'm ok with it. I don't see Upton being dealt, we don't have a position of need great enough for the caliber prospect that he would demand. I see a kubel for young 3b in the works, very likely Olt from Texas. I like Towers thinking on this we bought low and sold high on kubel, who is unlikely to be in our long term plans.

Some articles I've read mention that ARZ might be looking for pitching prospects for Kubel, something TEX has. Its not likely Kubel could fetch a Mike Olt and a pitching prospect but ARZ has all the leverage and could stand pat until TEX caves. The last real OF of value in free agency is Bourn but there really aren't a lot of OF's on the market unless NY is serious about dealing Granderson. If I was Towers I would demand Olt and a SP prospect for Kubel, no less. If Towers gets that kind of package for Kubel, he gets an A for the offseason.

....really?

It's hard to judge the signing if you look at it as a beginning to another deal...WHICH IT IS. wait to judge

Unless the Rangers are willing to deal Olt, my guess is that Kubel will go to the Mariners for prospects.

And on the other spectrum he is quite good against left handers, which makes him a great candidate to start every time we play against a lefty starter. Not sure that he was worth the contract that he got considering I don't see him starting everyday.

True, although I guess the rationale is that Kubel will make much more in FA, and guys like Victorino (who I think is worse than Ross) are getting 13 per year.

I'll wait for a corresponding move, but it does seem to be a bit of a head scratcher for a smaller market team with our depth in the OF.
