Glad the FO shed so much money in contracts to re-invest it in a bunch of scrubs.

Here are Xavier Nady's lifetime stats. He has averaged 100 games per season over eight seasons.

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI
798 2574 323 713 141 6 93 358

BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
161 534 16 8 .277 .331 .445 .776

Then I averaged them for a 400 official at-bat season:

R H 2B 3B HR
50 111 22 1 14

RBI BB SO SB CS
55 25 83 2 1

Eighty-three strikeouts per 400 at-bats for a weak hitting 1B-OF seem pretty high.

I'm wondering how that is going to help us.

This is Kevin Towers MO people. Buying low and hope for rebound years. Can't really blame him, he is working with a limited payroll and has done a great job in the past with this philosophy. Can we get Jorge Cantu to play 3B? Do we go after another bullpen arm?

Between Nady and Duke, I'm completely underwhelmed by what Kevin Towers is doing this post-season.

I know he's looking at them strictly as low risk, high reward potential guys. I'm also not living in some fantasy world where Arizona's gonna open up the checkbook to land guys like Carl Crawford, Cliff Lee, Jayson Werth and the other heavy hitters available this post season. Hell, at this stage I doubt the Snakes have the budget for Adrian Beltre.. However, if you're gonna go low risk, there's better options out there. Nady and Duke have been mediocre a large majority of their careers. I'm not expecting the switch to flicker now.

Here is the thing, it is not like they are counting on Duke or Nady to be Lee or Crawford. Duke is going to be our 4th or 5th starter. If he can give us 175+ innings of decent ball then it is a good move. Last year we pretty much played without a left fielder so if Nady can give us anything then that is a win.

I like the moves we have made considering the type of team we are. Our bullpen now looks like it should be pretty good and if we can hit close to what we did last year this team should be right around .500. If we can get some of our young guys to perform up to their potential then we could sneak into the playoff race.

AZ, respect what you're saying here and I appreciate where you're going here. However, I would like to respectfully agree and disagree so to speak.

By all means, I understand Towers bringing these guys in to be low risk, high reward potential guys. With most of the signings they've made in the last two - three years, I keep it grounded and I keep my expectations in check.

I'm not expecting Carl Crawford with Nady.. I'm sure as HELL not expecting Cliff Lee with Zack Duke. Problem is, I've seen enough of Duke to know, not only is he not going to be Cliff Lee, at this point, I'd question whether he'd pass for an upgrade over Rodrigo Lopez. I honestly see nothing of value out of Duke, he's a guy who was given many opportunities to show his mettle and he's flunked out. Yes, I realize the Pirates suck the huge one, but that excuse can only carry water so long. Eventually, you have to look at #1. Duke doesn't have the makeup to be a starter on the MLB level.

Nady? I have a little higher view on him than Duke, but I expect very little.

Like I said, I don't expect Pujols Jr. or Felix Hernandez here. I at minimum hope for the Diamondbacks to sign guys I feel confident will at least be on the 40 man roster come Opening Day. I feel this with neither.

And look at my past history here. I'm the biggest eternal optimist saying this.
