EDIT - And can anyone tell me WTF happened to the guy we got for Hillenbrand? He was the Blue Jays' "closer of the future" a couple years back.

He was released in mid-April and was since claimed off waivers by the Tigers... Adam Peterson was horrible anyways (and wouldnt have done better than anyone we currently have).... He lacked an effective breaking-pitch to help complement his fastball (ala Bruney), so therefore he gave-up a lot of HRs during Spring Training....

I would just wait until Aquino returns before the Dbacks make any sudden moves....

I may be mistaken, but I think we released Adam Peterson. Or traded him -- I recall being shocked by a move they made with him so soon.
Yeah - he's with the Erie Seawolves since mid April, ERA over 6 in 15 IP. His ERA with us was about 12 in a couple innings.

Say, THAT was a good trade, Joe.

Thanks for the info, just wondering what became of him. Sweet trade Joe Jr! Actually I can't be too hard on Joe for that trade, I was one of the biggest Shea haters on the board.

I'm okay with waiting it out for Aquino's return and a prognosis on Lyon but even with those guys healthy I still think we need help back there.

It's also hilarious how Jiminez, Osbourne, and Juan Acevedo also failed during Spring Training... Hey.... I heard Mike Fetters is still available... why not sign him? :D

Seriously.. I wonder why they dont promote Mr. Finch (Daigle) or perhaps Kevin Tolar... Any of them could do better than Bruney...

I have this feeling that Koplove has some undisclosed injury, but is afraid to reveal it since it would mean him potentially losing his spot on the roster permanently once he's placed on the DL... I wonder if he's still affected mentally that he was involved with that rejected trade-package with the Dodgers (the one in which the Dbacks would have netted Penny, Brazoban, Green, etc..)

Edit: I am wondering if the A's will be willing to part with Dotel once he's reactivated off the DL (since Street is their closer of the future), however, I bet Beane will demand Jackson or Quentin again..... I dont know of other avalilable relivers other than the ones I mentioned in an earlier post on this thread....

Honestly, I don't know who you think you can get at a reasonable rate of exchange that will be CONSISTENTLY better - because remember, you aren't doing the picking or the dealing, Mao -- Joe " :barf: " Jr. is, and he cannot, I emphatically repeat, cannot pick relief pitchers.
With all due respect, we have a lot of great baseball minds here at ASFN, but I still trust Joe Jr. to get a great deal a heck of a lot more than Id trust any of the message board posters. You dont give him nearly enough credit, he has had far more hits over his tenure than misses.

Webb walks two and then gives up a single and a sac fly. 2-0 Padres.

I hate to say it but this game has been absolutely horrid. It looked like we mailed this game in in the 4th inning.

Swinging at the first pitch they see, Brandon Webb not stepping it up in a big game ... simply an uninspiring effort.

It is time to send Lopez back to Tucson where he belongs. He really has no business anywhere near an MLB uniform.
Same could be said for Koplove and Lighterfluid. Another night, another joke of a performance by this bullpen.

And Jake Peavy is just sick. I'm not looking forward to facing this guy for the next decade, but I am looking forward to him becoming a great pitcher who's a blast to watch perform. The guy's David Cone Jr.

Peavy was just too dominant. Hey, Koplove and Lightenberg only give up 2 runs a piece in one inning of work for each. When was the last time Koplove has not given up a run?

I was going to post the same thing, Zona, 'til I saw yours. When was, I wonder, the last time that Koplove pitched without giving up a run?

With Aquino returning and Valverde pretty good, especially if Lyon returns, we should be OK in setup and closer.

But, I wonder what's really going through the minds of whoever is calling the shots now that Jerry is gone concerning our pathetic group of middle relievers. (Nothing personal about them, but you and I couldn't get away with their kind of performances at our work.)

I think we all have known since Day 1 of ST that our middle relievers and relievers in general could be a real problem this year. So far this season for a majority they have not been THAT bad. If i remember correctly it seems only the first 10-15 games or so and just recently has this come to fruition.

However if we want to win this division, there needs to be something change. I just hope Lyon is alright and Bruney seems to be doing somewhat decent, he can take koplove's role. All we need is one or two more guys who can stabalize the middle of this relief so we dont give up 15 runs.

Whoever is calling the shots has done well so far, so lets hope that keeps up.

The high cost of relief pitching just got defined - Cubs got Jerome Williams and David Ardsma (the latter a pretty hot prospect) from the Giants for LaTroy Hawkins, only just off the DL.

I believe you watched Jeff Moorad's "State of the Dbacks" on today's telecast and he stated how the Dbacks were also in pursuit of Hawkins, however, their demands were too high......

At any rate... I read the following on Yahoo:

Janie McCauley, of the Associated Press, reports the San Francisco Giants designated RP Matt Herges for assignment Sunday, May 29. The team has 10 days to trade or release him. A roster move had to be made following the team's acquisition of RP LaTroy Hawkins, and Herges was one of several candidates but became the odd man out. "It was one of the toughest (decisions)," said Giants assistant general manager Ned Colletti. "He's a man of great heart, soul and integrity." Overall, Herges was 1-1 with a 4.71 ERA in 21 appearances.

I'm not suggesting that the Dbacks obviously trade anything for him (nor of course would the Giants be inclined to help out a inner-division rival), but Herges has had some decent years in the past and was simply a victim of a "numbers game" this year..... Certainly would be better than Ligtenberg, Bruney, and to a lesser extent Koplove....

Other than Dotel (who Beane would try to "commit robbery" with the Dbacks) and perhaps Jorge Julio of the Orioles..I honestly cannot think of anyone else that would suit the Dbacks needs and wouldnt come at the risk of sacrificing one of our best prospects.....
