Thought we should get a new series thread as quickly as possible so we can forget the last one.

I had a bad feeling about the Royals series. Sure enough, they lose two of three. I hope we can surprise the White Sox. On paper, we'll be lucky to win a game. But, a baseball season has lots of streaks, and peaks and valleys, at unpredictable times. Maybe after the Royals disaster, this team will loosen up a bit and surprise Chicago.

Makeovers looking good

Sox and Diamondbacks are both enjoying success after similar roster alterations to improve their pitching, defense and attitude

The White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks share the same spring-training facility in Tucson.

And when the White Sox look across the U.S. Cellular Field diamond Monday night, they will see an Arizona team that has undergone a much-needed and similar overhaul just as they have.

The results haven't been as great as with the Sox, but the Diamondbacks have every right to feel encouraged about their transformation.

Arizona's .500-plus record marks a significant improvement from last year's 111-loss season.

The Diamondbacks and Sox each took major risks by trading and not re-signing centerpieces from last season. So far, the moves have paid off. Here's a look at their similarities:

Starting pitching

The addition of Orlando Hernandez has given the Sox's rotation depth. Hernandez, with his different deliveries and off-speed pitches, fits nicely between Jose Contreras and Jon Garland.

But the Diamondbacks' rotation overhaul was more dramatic. They traded five-time Cy Young Award winner Randy Johnson to the New York Yankees, but have received impressive results from staff ace Javier Vazquez and No. 5 starter Brad Halsey.

Diamondbacks are winning 7-0 in the 2nd as Snyder, Gonzo and Glaus go deep.

7-0

Two or three more innings like this one and I might even feel comfortable.

The White Sox are my favorite AL team.

I guess I will have to put away my Sox hat for a couple of days.

Estes is pitching a great game against the best team in baseball. Keeping the Arizona bullpen pitchers off the field.

Do you think the White Sox are better than the Cardinals?

It's funny how this team struggled with the worst team in baseball for three games, at home, and then turns around and lays a whipping on the best team in the AL on the road.

The Cardinals are the best team in baseball. The ChiSox will come back to Earth and the Twins will win the Al Central although the Sox will compete for the wild card.

Anyways, I enjoyed watching this game. It had something to do with the bullpen not throwing one pitch.

That very well could be true but the White Sox have the best record in baseball.

Remember how in the past (not last year) the DBacks seemed to play up or down to the supposed level of their competition? Which drove us all nuts, of course.

I have no idea where this offense has suddenly come from (and I don't buy the warm weather nonsense - it's been plenty warm at home) but it makes me very happy. I've wondered what would happen if all three G's went off at the same time. I'm not expecting a (dejinxing edit) - Ortiz will have to not only be stellar on the mound, but he'll have to go really deep AND get another ton of run support - but it sure would be a treat.

Javy looked very good, even though he gave up those two home runs. Green and Glaus are starting to heat up. Hopefully they can keep it up. Tony Clark should be in the line-up for every game on this road trip.

We're beating down the Pale Hose again. 6-2 in the top of 6. For those on bullen watch, Ortiz has thrown only 70 pitches.

Did anyone really expect the bullpen to stop the bleeding? :biglaugh:

That was truly disgraceful.

Question: How can you win the the first 2 games of a series against the team with the best record in baseball and still have to slink home with your tail between your legs?

Answer: Implode like a team of 8 year olds and give up 10 runs in one inning.

I only counted 4 balls hit out of the infield?

No dought.

Vargas was a truly weak pick up.

Why didn't they just audition guys from the local 40 and over league.

REALITY SHOW! What a great idea! DevilAlum, you're a GENIUS!

I am not going to take any responsibility for this disaster, either  - I took it back immediately, and they were doing just fine tonight until Thom started assuming the win and talking about pulling closer in the NL West, starters going deeper in the game, etc.
I'm sorry, but how could anyone think for a minute Ortiz could go deeper? He is Dessens all over, and when he falls apart around mid fifth or sixth, it's a damn fast ride down the water slide.

The box score says 2 errors but I counted 4 in that last inning.

By the way the Dbacks luck is due for a change. I have been stuck on "13" hundred posts for the entire team slump. I worked very hard to get through this and now see nothing but sunny skies ahead.
