I had hoped we could keep Dice but at that price no way. I would have singed him to a 1 or 2 year contract at the most. WE are weak at Center but I am glad the Suns did not get desperate and overpay some stiff. Dice could help Detroit but at that price they will regret paying that much money

Our advantage in signing Dice to a low-salary one-year contract was we could keep his bird right this way and match the offers he would attract after he had proved himself next year. However, with a contract of Detroit's, it'd be a bad gamble on Dice's part to wait one more year hoping for more. So, we have no chance at all. Also, we have been in the know about his state of health and sure made the right decision not to give him a contract of Detroit's size. I'm fine with the outcome.

I am very sure they can not do this, when Richardson signed the offer sheet, that is the same as signing a regular contract, and there will be no changes to that offer sheet.

I believe what they are referring to is the fact that Richardson has not signed an offer sheet yet. The Suns and Q have agreed to an offer sheet, but no one can sign one until the 15th, so until then, it would be possible for the Suns and Q came to a mutual understanding to back out of the agreement to sign the offersheet if it was beneficial to both of them.

This deal just doesn't sound like something Joe Dumars would do. I really have to wonder whether there are some serious performance clauses although I'm not sure how that would really work.

I just have to say one thing though... I told you so. A lot of you guys thought he was going to beginning half of the mid-level exception.

I'm pretty sure there are performance clauses in the Dice deal as was being reported when it first came up. It doesn't matter, Dice is just too big a health risk for the Suns and was only a short term solution at best.

One of the things about having a championship team is that the focus tends to be short term. The Pistons really want to repeat. This is why they did not pay to move Campbell to the Bobcats and prefer the more experienced Dice to Okur. It may come back to haunt them, but it will give them a better chance to repeat.

Yes, this was my thinking... we would tell Q that the Clippers said they would match it, and we wanted to go a different direction and so what would be the use. This way we could go on and do something else.

I can't remember the exact percentage, but clauses and incentives are only allowed to constitute something like 15% of the salary. It seems to me that Detroit probably has a team option on his third or fourth year. Still, this is a big risk. It's probably worth it though. If he's reasonably healthy McDyess is fully capable of being a top sixth man or one of the better power forwards in the NBA. They just have to hope he can stay healthy.

They offered the same money to Okur first, of course.

This reminds me of the Alonzo Mourning signing; I guess this is the kind of risk/reward move that you can take when your team is a championship contender and the money would just burn a hole in your pocket, anyway. It looks to me like the Pistons are signing McDyess mainly for next year--if McDyess gets hurt again after that, they'll just plug in Darko and keep chugging along...

Considering the deal that Camby got, I'm assuming that GM's are not discounting history of injuries as much as we had originally assumed. My guess is that no other team offered Dice anything close to what the Pistons offered.

I said all along that it would only take one idiot. I would have guessed that Dumars would be the one, but I have a feeling that Larry Brown called this shot. Trouble is, it is unbelievably unlikely that Larry will be there five years from now.

I disagree George. I'll bet there were at least four or five other teams offering similar amounts or probably more for McDyess. I wouldn't be surprised if he gave Detroit the " I want to win a championship" discount.

The deal looks like it is guaranteed for only four years rather than the originally reported five, but it is still the same basic deal that Mourning got. I know Mark Cuban says how grateful he is that he was not able to get Zoe to sign with the Mavs.

I really wanted to get Dice back, but not at that price. Not at that risk.

Hes probably going to play like 10 minutes a game, no way hes going to be a 6th man of the year contender.

Every article that I have read today states that McDyess is close to signing a deal with Detroit. One even specficly states that a deal may be signed on Wednesday. Something has to be holding up the finality of an agreement so I wouldn't rule out Dice yet.

Just type in "thesportskiosk.com."

It's a couple of fans trying to make names for themselves. They might be right, but I doubt it.
