Did the Cards maybe move a little TOO quickly?

I think the next day or two (or so) should be interesting if, for no other reason, than to alleviate or futher confirm a nagging suspicion that maybe OZ is a step or two farther on down the road than a few people might have thought.

Some food for thought here............

What if Danny Boy Snyder kinda did his usual thing?....you know..."Genius Danny"....more money than class or brains.....
and his "usual thing" being King Squat ( the opposite of King Midas)...you know... mess up a wet....well you know...everything he touches.

What if once he started his little jet set, gotta get Jim Fassel,..routine...that pumped everone's adrenaline.?
And What if: Rod Graves.....remembering his school-hood days from last year's draft and free agency.....and Michael...Mr "new way" Bidwill Jr, maybe thinking....."hmmmm, heat's on here. Showing I got the brains and power here could REALLY be important to my future, I better not screw this up".

Sooo.....

They don't want to get schooled again here, where they in the big boy's game now.

Enter.....the co-leaders in this year's "Mr Popularity" contest, according to "most recent polls". "Smiley Denny Green" & "Mr. Lemons" Jim Fassel.
Dennis is bright....he's prepared for this week or so for 2 years now. He's charming, articulate, has done at least a reasonable amount of homework.
Meanwhile Fassel is Exhausted. He left a big part of himself in N.Y. He seems to be able to name his own ticket at the moment..so "it's all cool"...no problem anyway.

...and what if....now Rod and Mike are saying " Damn....Green was really impressive...maybe we really can get him.
(they're still hyped up on the Snyder-induced adrenaline).

Let's go for it. This could be a great score if we land it."

...but one of them says..."yeah but what about Fassel? You know, coming into this, we all felt he was really the best fit? "

reply: Well, we got Green, he's hooked if we just set the hook within the next 24 hours. Fassel didn't kiss our butts like Green did anyway. Besides, if we take the time to talk to him again....we may lose out on Green.....and then if Fassel blows us off too, then we REALLY look like the same 'ol same 'ol retards that so many accuse us of. Screw Fassel. Grab Green. Everyone will love us for this great coup"

But what if this was just another Tango dream? Maybe Kerouac was right.....maybe they SHOULD have taken a little more time...and made doubly sure they know what every basic trainee is taught the first day they enter the service....CYA.?????

I sure hope we see some decent coaches hired...not just old "yassuh" ghosts from Valhalla past.

I sure hope Graves and Michael know what they Hell they are doing.

I sure hope this doesn't turn out to be "You Got a Winner in Town, Part II." !!!

Dennis Green is our coach. Get used to it. Here's hoping all the stuff that you said doesn't come true. But if it does, you'll be there to say I told you so.

The only person who's really gotten hurt in all of this is Fassell. He's still looking for a job and everyone except the Raiders and Chicago have their guy.

Surely Tango would never stoop to saying "I told you so". He doesn't like that "schoolboy" stuff on this board.

Yaaawn.

Someone please stop this madness, please.

It's becoming trolling. Deal with the coach, my man. Deal with it.

I wouldn't even say that Fassel is hurt in any fashion, even if he doesn't land a job of any sort this year. He's getting paid $2.77 million this year.

I think he can afford to sit out a season to recharge his batteries.

Tango, it was just a few days ago that you were telling us that Graves and the Bidwills knew what they were doing. I also told you a few weeks ago that I hoped to live to see the day when all of your faith in the front office was justified in the form of wins. Well, I hope you were right last week and this speculation of yours is wrong.

What?
So far I have to go with MB and RG's call.

Look at the list of teams that passed on Fassel.

Giants
Cardinals
Bills
Bears

there may be another one I'm missing but it is a destinct pattern.

Why has Fassel fallen so far? I have no idea but hope it's because Green was a better choice in our case.

We all wanted Green or Fassel. We got Green. Let's just hold the second guessing until camp.

Exactly what do you mean..."get used to it"?

Hey, the Cards have been dealt. (pardon the pun:D ).
I'm not upset because I "mis-pimped", or my "homey" didn't "get picked".

I am a Cardinal fan, first and foremost.

I simply want what's best for the team...not just tomorrow, but for all the future too.

I really do hope Green is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But I really didn't just jump off a load of cucumbers either.

Being able to say "I told you so"...is no goal of mine. That would mean the team is #$^%#@.
That's the very last thing I want.

If Green ends up being a bad move....there ain't gonna be much that can be done about it for 5 years.

The only thing I'm going to hope to get used to......is seeing this team be a success, in every sense of the word.

Things aren't smelling real fresh right at the moment. I sincerely do hope the aroma improves soon.

...and I'm not saying it won't.

But like I said....I didn't just jump off a load of cucumbers either.

first of all, if we do just get some "yassuh" (which i kinda find offensive) ghosts from the Valhalla (norse warrior's heaven - WHAT?!?) past is that a bad thing? i mean, those same yesmen helped dennis get his teams to the playoffs. if they can repeat that, i won't complain.

also, it seems that dennis has always surrounded himself with fairly successful assistant coaches. let's give his boys a chance, shall we?

listen to me, the voice of reason. pass the lime flavored kool aid.

What I mean by get used to it means, maybe it's time to stop revisting this topic in all it's variations. Support the decision and move on.

As far as the smell of the place... 4-12 stinks. But a new coach with a great track record tends to add a little air freshener though. It's all dependent on what you chose to sniff.

Bingo!!

I would doubt that was really his first priority.

But you have have to admit....that's a pretty nice safety net.

so funny, i can distinctly remember almost every member of the darkside uttering these same sentiments over and over again during the preseason and regular season . . .

What I'm "sniffing" is the fact that Green now seems to be loading up his staff with former "yes" men that were on his staff in Minnesota. The very one's who's only NFL experience is with Green. The very one's you can't find anyone else that vouches for them. No one else has ever hired them, when they were available.

If that, indeed, does turn out to be what happens....this could be Green's "Waterloo". I don't really give a hoot one way or the other about Green. But if he goes down, then the Cards probably do too. That I do care about.

Why is asking questions like this now.....not supporting the team??

I'm interested to see what happens. I hope we DO get some actual good coaches, that are not just lackeys.

If Dennis Greens "lackeys" as you call them get us to the playoffs, I don't give a flying f where they came from.

I'm not sure about Rowen.....

But if Solomon and Hargreave show up here.

Sorry, but I'm going to call foul till the cows come home.

Thomas I would love to have....but isn't it a little strange that "suddenly" maybe he isn't going to be here after all???

Especially since I wouldn't put him in the "lackey" catagory like Solomon and Hargreave.

Solomon spent his Career (his only NFL one) under
1. Tony Dungy- 4 yrs
2. Foge Fazio-4 yrs
3. Emmett Thomas - 2 years

Dungy and Thomas were both defensive backs when they, themselves played. Minnesota's defenses were never notorius under Green, even with those proven DC's handling the defense.

If these two show up here....to me...it will reek of a form of nepotism that could end up with the same net result that Buddy Ball brought this team.

Today's news was simply just not very encouraging to me at all.

If my mom had balls she would be my dad!

I understand what you are saying but we dont know whats going on yet. Why not at least WAIT until the staff is in place even if you cant wait until some games are actually played!

The only thing in your post talks about is the what ifs. Give me hardcore stuff to ponder and not this dribble.

Agreed. Lets sniff a little of Greens "failures" for a while. That will be a huge step up from what we have had.

OK...here's a cyber-rock.....ponder that. It's "hardcore stuff".
Won't even ask you any "what if's" back.
Heaven forbid someone ask a question that might force a few neurons to fire.

I found the following story in the Washington Post about Darrell Green becoming secondary coach for the Redskins which contains an excerpt in the second to last paragraph stating that Emmitt Thomas turned down the Cardinals.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A8638-2004Jan11.html

Actually Rowens looks like he could be a nice addition. I've said before that I would expect Green to utilize the TE's a lot.
I like the talent we have there. He could be a great fit.

So this one I would consider a plus.

...not a good sign that Thomas gave us the nix, though....not good.

Tango:

O.K., here's a "what if" for you. What if Dennis Green is no more or less successful in Arizona than he was in Minnesota (i.e., he's learned nothing, makes all the same errors in professional judgment, lasts no longer as head coach, and his Cardinals have no better on-field performance than his Vikings teams did). What can Cards fans look forward to?

*Green will be here for the next decade.
*The Cards won't have a losing season again until 2013.
*They'll go to the playoffs eight of the next nine seasons, and play in two NFC Championship games (sadly, losing both).
*Win or lose, the Cards will have one of the highest-scoring, most exciting offenses in the league.

In short, should he merely equal his track record with the Vikings, Dennis Green will be the longest-tenured, winningest coach in the long, storied history of the Cardinals franchise.

So what, exactly, are you so concerned about?
