CHARLOTTE — Clemson basketball guard Dillon Hunter suffered a right-hand injury toward the end of the first half vs. SMU in the ACC tournament quarterfinals on Thursday night at Spectrum Center.

SMU's Keon Ambrose-Hylton scored a layup to cut its deficit to three points with 50 seconds left in the first half. On the play, Hunter injured his hand. He was in pain, forcing Clemson coach Brad Brownell to call a timeout. Clemson trainers checked on Hunter, and he went to the locker room. He did not return during warm-ups for the second half.

Hunter returned to the starting lineup on Thursday for the ACC men's basketball tournament after Brownell opted to start forward Chauncey Wiggins for one game vs. Virginia Tech. Clemson is 7-0 this season when Dillon Hunter, Chase Hunter, Jaeden Zackery, Ian Schieffelin and Viktor Lakhin start.

Clemson announced in the second half that Dillon Hunter injured a finger and ruled him out. Hunter came out in sweats and sat on the bench during the second half.

Dillon Hunter entered Thursday averaging 5.6 points, shooting 40%, and two assists. With him out, freshman Del Jones and Jake Heidbreder will receive extended minutes in the second half. Heidbreder started the second half in lace of Hunter.

Dillon Hunter is officially OUT for the remainder of the game. https://t.co/OaSHmFs1pO
