Direct TV is the only way to go to see Cardinals games from another state right?

I moved to Cali and I don't know much about Sattelite TV. I've always used Cable. Direct TV has a monopoly right? Are there any good deals to be had for their NFL package? Also I guess I have to have a line of site for my dish? What are the requirements on those?! I'm on a bottom level of a two story apartment building, I hope that doesn't exclude me The guy above me has a satellite dish Thanks for your help!

Yes, Direct TV has exclusive rights to Sunday Ticket.

Get ready for the full ream job on the Sunday Ticket programming. They never offer deals on that.

Do watch for news paper ads for the equipment though. If you sign up for a years worth of basic services, they will give you some sweet deals on the equipment. And many times throw in the install for free.

Get a tripod. Check the thread named: Damn Apartments!

ok thanks! I'm probably ordering tomorrow. I noticed they have a premium package deal that you get for free for a couple months if you order NFL ticket online. It's only temporary and that you get to go back to normal. It's going to be really expensive though!

I remember when I first had my dish and I ordered NFL Sunday ticket, I told the operator to hook me up with it. I thought it was going to be 99.00, then I got my bill and it was like almost 300.00 or something outragious like that.

Watch the news papers this weekend and compare. It totally depends on what deals Direct TV has going for their dealers right now.

They have a deal with NFL NFL Ticket where you get NFL games for $210 devided over 4 four months and Total Choice Premier (which is the best package I guess ) with local channels for free for those four months. Although I don't think Fresno allows you to get local channels anyways Oh well it doesn't matter Fresno sucks anyways Just so there isn't a bomb in my apartment or something I'll be fine! After the four months I get to pick the package I want. The one with HBO seems more affordable than the one I'm paying now with Cable.

Cable here sucks, it's more expensive than Arizona. I don't know if I signed a guarantee to keep the service for a certain amount of time or something Hope not!! Should of looked at it but I was stressed out enough as it was with the moving. I needed my television, didn't think up Satelite at the time. They had this horrendous bill for installation but took it all off as a "bonus" Have to check into that. Thanks for your help! I'll do a little more research tomorrow. If any of you got better deals please tell me!

You can always go to a sports bar and watch the games but there is usually no sound unless they are playing a team with a large national following like Green Bay.

However I saved enough on beverages to pay not only for NFL Season ticket but about 4 months of the cost of Direct TV

I got my system at Circuit City. They were running a $0.00 special, including free install and 3 months Showtime.

Of course, once I bought the upgraded dish for local channels, upgraded receiver, upgraded programming package, plus the service protection plan....it cost me $400.00, not including the $200.00 for Sunday Ticket.

My monthly bill, with one premium package is only $49.00/month, which is only $2.00 more than I was paying for cable.

All-in-all, I love the system, and can't wait to watch the Cardinal games on Sundays. I have never gone an entire season where I will have watched ALL the Cardinal games....including when I lived in Arizona.

But dude, YOU HAVE TO GET THE DIRECT TIVO RECEIVER! it costs like 250, but it is worth every single penny.

I can record two football games WHILE watching one that I have already recorded! how sweet is that?

I currently have Dish Network because its the only option available out here in the boonies where I am right now, ( I got screwed, I was told when I got mine that Dish network was buying out Direct TV, and would soon be carrying NFL Sunday ticket too, but apparently the merger was then banned by congress. Between that and the NFL re-upping direct TV's contract for another 3 years, I'm dead in the water) but they both seem to operate essentially the same.

You should be able to get your equipment (dish and receiver(s) for nothing. Possibly free installation too, depending on your exact location. They make their money from your monthly subscription payments, not on the sale of the hardware.

The most common approach is to get you to commit to a 1 year contract for their service, then the equipment becomes yours. Dish Network "rebates" the "calculated" cost of the equipment back to you over the course of the first 12 months by deducting 1/12 of that cost each month on your bill. As far as I know, Direct TV does the same thing.

Net result = end of 1 year, the equipment is yours, at no cost, but you've been locked into their service for the year.

That is pretty much the "standard", to give you a basis to operate from.

How is DirecTV not available out in the boonies? Is there a glass shield around your area that blocks out the DirecTV wavelength and yet leaves the Dish Network wavelength unharmed?

Not at all. There is just no one in the area that is a direct tv dealer, franchisee, etc. Of course the satellite signal is there, but you have to have the local dealer to connect you with it. You can't just throw up your own dish and tap into their signal.

but your right fresno doesn't have local channels yet

so I ended up keeping cable and direct tv
and I don't even watch tv that much, oh the things I do for the cards

I'm pretty sure that if buy (& if necessary, self-install) the equipment, all you have to do is contact DirecTV's national hq. to activate your service.

(Note - only drawback is: if you're like me, you fall off ladders a lot and are "technically challenged" when it comes to pointing the dish in the right direction and anchoring properly to your building or window ledge).

To be on the safe side, what I'd suggest doing is:

A. Call 1-800-DirectTV, give them your zip code and get them to confirm that - if you install the dish and the receiver, they'll be able activate the service.

B. Buy the equipment (either via the Internet or from a retailer in the nearest big city)

C. Install the dish, run the cable, run the auxiliary phone line, hook up the receiver and connect to the cable & phone line.

D. Phone DirecTV per the instructions in your manual to have them "turn on" the signal for whatever packages you sign up for.

(Second note - One somewhat dicey issue - since you live in the boonies - is whether or not DirecTV will make available local network channels or conversely, provide you with the West Coast network feeds out of LA until they do. Check this out with them when you call them. Otherwise, you'll have to continue getting your network programs over the air or via a separate basic cable hookup).

And if you run into Voice Mail Hell, they have a website: www.directv.com with a feedback mechanism. If you can't get all the answers by navigating the website, you can always contact them with your questions. They're pretty good about getting back to you).

You got it Jeff, just put up the dish, call DirecTV and your ready to go. One note is that I believe now, due to people programming cards, that you have to order your card through DirecTV, but they Fed Ex it to you so it only takes a few days.
