As soon as I figure out how to get sports packages without DirecTV I will no longer pay a Cable/Sat. provider for video/TV.

I really like DirecTV, but as this article states, the tatics used in this fight are foolish on both sides. It just inconveinces the customers, and FORCES said customers to adapt, and FORCES them to figure out how to obtain said programming by other means. Not to mention allows people to, again realize, what they need, and what they don't.

In a period where people are still finding ways to get more with less, this is a horrible time for both businesses to have this very public, and very greedy fight, while putting customers in the middle of the hole situation.

Just like congress, they could have figured this out BEFORE the deadline, but that takes work, and higher ups don't like work. What ever they can do to make it someone elses fault. Instead of hammering out a deal, they point fingers, thus doing less work, and creating more damage. Sad state of affairs.

And just as the people do with the government, they adapt, and find ways to work around the absolute ignorance, laziness, and pettiness that effects their lives.

Bad move by DTV, and Viacom. They will not only lose customers, but lose them for life because people will find another way.

Personally, I love it. Any time people adapt, and screw greedy, lazy, so-called leaders, it is great to watch. Only real leaders, and men of vision can always have wealth and power. Because they actually work, and know how to adapt. Hand-me-down, silver-spooners just hope things don't change, and the magical cash machine keeps shooting out free money, and while they will do anything and everything (including killing their own grandma) to keep things they way they are.......things never stay the same. They are doomed.

Either cable/sat providers realize change is coming, and adapt, or they will soon be gone in place of someone else.

i think i decent percentage of people only have cable/satellite because that's what they've always had. by forcing them to turn elsewhere for content will only show them that cable/satellite isnt worth it anymore. once you become educated in where to find your content (most of the times for free), their is no reason to go back.

i dont understand how people spend upwards of $100 for a package that contains 140 channels, and only end up avidly watching 10 of them.

Agreed.

And the cable/sat. companies just don't get it. Giving people an excuse to go find a way to get things alternately of a $100 dollar service is the DUMBEST move they can make.

Just ask the music industry.

I find it interesting that you're all blaming Directv.

Viacom demanding a 30% hike in their fees would force Directv to raise all their prices. They said no to avoid raising prices to their customers.

After their channels were removed from Directv, Viacom, NOT Directv, then proceeded to remove all their shows from online portals.

This isn't about anti-satellite, it's about anti-big corporation.

EDIT: By the way, for those of you that don't know, current customers can call in and complain and get a bunch of free stuff. I hear they are giving disgruntled customers Sunday Ticket for free.

I regularly watch Colbert Report online so I was disappointed to find this out. However even though they took the full episodes off the websites they are still on Hulu. Not sure what other Viacom shows are on Hulu but it seems pretty dumb to take them off the shows website but leave them up there.
