According to reports Disney is exploring buying most of FOX's movie/TV business (not including news/sports). That would change much in terms of the Marvel universe for sure. It would reunite the licensing rights and bring much back under the same umbrella. It would also consolidate any distribution rights FOX still owns for the Star Wars verse as well for the older films and other Lucas properties.

FOX's movie business has taken some huge hits in the past several years and their TV programing is always in flux. It might also explain why FOX earlier said they were not interesting in selling rights back to Marvel or negotiating cross licensing. Sounds like they had something bigger in mind.

One article says they are "no longer talking" but that doesn't mean squat. These kind of things start and stop all the time as a matter of negotiation. Obviously, FOX is interested.

WOW.

Wow. Disney would just OWN the town... as if it didn't already.

My question though is if this happened, does that mean the end of R rated dramas/superhero movies from Fox?

And let's not forget getting X-men, Deadpool, etc into the MCU!!

That's a good question. You'd hope they see the dollar signs behind movies like Deadpool rather than the wholesome family movie and not mess it up.

Wasn't it about 15yrs or so ago that Disney was in somewhat financial dire straits? Amazing the conglomerate they have and could become.

How can this possibly be legal under anti-trust laws? ABC AND Fox? Not to mention the other TV properties.
The Bloomberg article says, so that probably avoids antitrust. Although Disney is single hand-idly trying to kill Netflix.
Disney wouldn’t acquire Fox’s broadcast network, Fox News, local broadcast stations or sports programming, the person said.

They would own 2 of the top 5. It would probably be the last takeover that would be approved.

They wouldn’t be buying Fox, just their movie and tv businesses. Probably some legal workaround to avoid impropriety based on that.

Correct. No Fox News or Fox Sports.

And ironically, Disney animation is arguably stronger than Pixar at this point. Thanks to Lassiter.

If they don't make Lasseter the next CEO of Disney it will be a tragedy.
