Fresh out of prison, Kermit (Zylka), a mostly good kid mixed up with local drug dealers, returns home to his rural Mississippi trailer park. As he struggles to keep his nose clean, he falls for Rachel (Keough), his sultry neighbor who’s turned to dancing in a club to support her sick mother. Determined to overcome their inauspicious circumstances, the star-crossed lovers make a desperate, last-ditch effort to escape their dead-end town—but soon find themselves ensnared in a cycle of crime.

You know, movie blurbs that start with crap like "Featuring explosive chemistry between rising stars" and "and impressive supporting performances from" already lower the chances that I'll even consider seeing the movie. Get to the blurb and stop self-aggrandizing your crap. I and others will be the judge of the movie. It's easy for you to praise your own work. Ugh, this is such a pet peeve of mine.

They're marketing unknown actors. How is that surprising? Methinks you don't know a lot about movie marketing.

It's a pet peeve about plot summaries in general, not just this movie. It's a plot summary--a plot summary, not a "this is how awesome we are" summary. It makes me and many others have an off-the-cuff bad reaction whenever we read this kind of stuff, so probably not a good marketing ploy lol I mean, I've never heard someone say, "Whelp, I wasn't going to see it, but gee, the plot summary said all the actors were way awesome, so I totally changed my mind" :)

Sure, I can see that. Personally, I don't care one way or another. Studios are taking a big money risk releasing a movie in theaters, especially a lot of theaters, if the leads are unknowns. They pay the marketing firms to figure out ways to hype the movie, and to be honest, that kind of verbage is so inconsequential to people like you or I that it is hardly worth talking about it. And here we are, with 4 posts devoted to it. :)

Ha! Fair enough. Granted, if I already want to see a movie, it's not going to change that. If I don't know what a movie's about, or if I'm on the fence, and I go to read the plot summary, that can easily make it a pass for me.

I get that marketing firms have their own wacky brand of logic. Sometimes it works, other times not, but either way, they do fork in the big bucks.

Translation: The plot is thin and no one ever heard of the stars. So we hired Faith Hill and Steve Earle so someone would look familiar. The characters live in trailers.
