I love how people on these message boards are so quick to tell these other men to take less money.

If it was you would you take less money so this other guy from this other company can come over and improve overall business...HELL NO you wouldn't.

If they want Cousins, then hard choices are going to have to be made. And it wouldn't be the first time players renegotiated deals to get salary cap room for players.

It's called a business.

On National TV both basically said Cousins puts them over the top and that the Front Office needs to go after them. My guess is...all the players are pushing it. Cardinals I bet are trying to see how to get it done.

If you are talking about the same interview with DJ from Super Bowl week, it was the interviewers who pretty much brought Cousins up and being a young guy, DJ went with it with the camera on him and all and I would put absolutely nothing into DJ or Peterson 'really' wanting Cousins at all

While I mostly agree with that, I would definitely take less money if it meant my workload was going to be easier. But that's coming from an ultra-stressed marketer.

Somewhat OT, but maybe not.

I’m attending a sports analytics conference right now, and am about to hear a media session with Mike Sando of ESPN...the former Cards beat writer...maybe I should ask him afterwards if he has any inside info on Cousins or what the Cardinals are thinking.

I did talk to him...very nice guy. He seems to be under the impression that the whole idea of the salary cap was overrated...if the Cardinals want to go after Cousins, they could make it work.

He also seemed to think that they might.

I just hope that “if” & that’s a BIG if, the Cards try to sign Cousins just to lure Larry Legend into playing for them again. I hope that’s not the reason

I personally don’t like the thought of Cousins being our QB either. Something stinks here...I think he’s probably the only starting QB who threw for 4000 yards multiple times, not injured, in the prime of his career & under 30 and been let go to test free agency. Only one I can think of.

Smells like 45 day old Tuna to me! It just doesn’t seem right. The Skins franchise him for astronomical $$$ & then trade for another “older” QB lol

I’ll pass but thanks for your opinions PP & DJ

He doesn't want to play for Washington apparently. That's why he never signed with them & why they tagged him 2 years in a row.

if it really is because he doesnt want to be there...expect the skins to tag him again, then trade him. it makes no sense for them to just let him walk away for nothing.

They can't afford to tag him after they sign Smith.

And become THAT organization? That would greatly damage their image in other players eyes and would make potential free agents shy away from signing there. Also, at that cap number, who would be able to swing that trade? No guarantee he would agree to a long term deal anywhere else, therefore very few teams could do it.

he doesnt have to be traded at the cap price,... they can tag him, then he works a long term deal with the team he is traded to... thats how it has worked before when teams signed a tagged player.

Would'nt they be hit with a penalty going so far over the CAP?
y'all are nitpicking details,.. the difference is only about 3 mil... honestly,... the deal for Smith is "in principal"... so they hold off on it a few days, tag Cousins, trade him, then finalize the deal for Smith. it isnt that complicated and it allows them to get a little something for him. not likely two firsts... but maybe a second. The agents could have it all worked out before FA began... if they had to carry them both for a while clearing 3mil isnt that hard

He also doesn't have to accept or negotiate a new deal. That is the point. If he is going to get tagged this year, his third year being tagged, he'll rake in $34 mil. He could just sit on his hind parts and severely handicap the Redskins while making a ton of money.

I don't care who DJ and PP want. I care who McCoy thinks is best suited to run the offense he envisions

I think so little of Mike McCoy, I would trust my 82 year old father in law (who is not a sports fan) just slightly less.
