I think the Pro Bowl is a farce anymore. Half of the players selected don't even want to be bothered with it and turn it down resulting in players getting in who should never be there in the first place. The only importance it has to players anymore is if it's part of their contract where making the Pro Bowl results in bonus money for making it.

Further confirmation that the Pro Bowl is nonsense
I hear this all the time and always ask, what bad players get elected to the probowl? Still waiting for a good answer. Now, maybe some of the reserves who get placed on the team because of opt outs may not be the best of the best, but the starters voted in are pretty much at the top of their position group.
Even when a guy like DJ gets named, he's not a bum and still a pretty good player. It's not like Max Garcia is getting named.

Hump just got in and he's not even a top 15 left tackle. Gilmore got in playing 8 average games.

Chandler got in and had his worse season probably of his career.

Its not that bad players get in. It's undeserving players.

No its actually right. There is a difference between being named an alternate and actually playing in the pro bowl as an alternate. It actually counts.

Cool. He's an alternate. We are so bad at offensive line the last guy on the OL that made the Pro Bow was Iupati 7 years ago and the last tackle we had that made the Pro Bowl was Lomas Brown.

DRAFT. OFFENSIVE. LINEMEN.

Geez. Enough with the 5'7 WRs.

Surely the only difference is that someone pulled out for one of them and didn't for the other?

Garrett Bolles (Denver) just signed a contract extension last year - 4 years/68m.

Similar ages at contract signing, former 1st round picks, and stayed with same team.

You could also argue Bolles is better.

By signing DJ to a contract like this- you could take his cap hit in 2022 down 14m+.

Exactly. So no difference based on the play/ability of the anyone who ever had the “alternate” designation whether they got to play or not.

I find a difference between guys who are the 1st alternate vs guys who are the 5th alternate.

In basketball terms Im not going to call Devin Booker a "non all star" because he replaced Anthony Davis last year as the 1st replacement.

The nba all stars also have a TON more legitimacy than does the pro bowl (other than egregious voting like Wiggins starting this year).

So if Joe Burrow lost the AFC championship game and replaced Mahomes in the pro bowl is he not legitimate?
