Sounds like a great name for a great TV show. In this case I’m thinking of a different direction. So I inquired to my Tampa contacts if the Bucs were interested in DJ. If you’re excited by the Cards’ $72 million cap space in 2020, keep in mind the Bucs will have $90 mil. The Bucs top RB, Ronald Jones, will end with about 1000 yds rushing and receiving. A starting Johnson in BA ‘s offense would likely exceed those numbers and perhaps nearly double them. BA would love to have a receiving RB like Johnson. BA isn’t getting any younger, so it’s time to go for that biscuit. Some have mentioned swapping contracts but Tampa has nothing that could practically be exchanged. If my calculations are correct the Bucs would take on DJ’s $10 mil salary. The Cards would have the obligation for the $6 mil remaining bonus which would count against the 2020 cap. The Cards have to be given something so I suppose they might get a 7th, but maybe they have to also give up a 6th and just get back a 7th. I’ve gotten the feeling that there is a deal to be made. It makes sense for both teams. The Bucs believe they can make a playoff run and Johnson fits. They’re leaning toward keeping Winston. The Cards seem to believe Johnson doesn’t fit KK’s offense, so an extra net of $7 mil (2021 bonus accelerated), would be handy to keep Drake and sign FAs. This is hypothetical, but I like the fit.

It's clearly the most obvious fit given Arians connection to DJ so it's certainly something to keep an eye out for, they are the most logical team if anybody is going to make a deal.

Reading the Bleacher report and they agree that the Bay needs a dynamic running back to move forward with quarterback Jameis Winston. They didn't mention Johnson, but......and for the Cards they mention we need a pass catching tight end......

they didnt mention Johnson because they can think past "derr derr old coach like DJ, trade DJ old coach derr derr"

odds of it happening are near zero. Bruce aint blind and DJ wasnt worth his contract even at full health. We're stuck with DJ for better or worse.

With Harry conveying this tidbit, I’m thinking 25 percent chance. The fact they are basically sitting DJ (injury avoidance?) I think it’s better than 40 percent. If DJ continues with low snaps over the last two games >50.

Its not injury avoidance. It's playing your best player and DJ aint it. Look, I'd love to unload DJ and his contract as much as the next guy, I just think its nearly impossible.

When you're slow, unavailable often, and that expensive nobody wants you. Not even fans of his current team who have witnessed he is a great family man and Larry Fitz lite in that aspect. Honestly feel bad for DJ's demise.

DJ doesn't run with authority anymore, and that is his biggest issue. He could swap to be a okayish WR that can beat your #2 CB but than again, we don't need that. If we would think as a strong team, we would line him up as WR the next two games and showcase him as a WR because than his money doesn't seem that esagerated and if somebody bits, you can unload him for a 5th or 4th rounder.

But for a RB? No nobody will take his contract. You DON'T PAY RB. Keim didn't follow the rule, like others in the last years and all, get to see to bite them...

Tampa, KC, Houston, Tenn (if Henry leaves), NE, Miami, and Atlanta all make sense to me. All I'm saying is that we may have options.

Bucs would gain no advantage by giving up OJ. They're already taking the biggest risk with DJ. They have no need to sweeten the deal.

I commented on the $$$ Johnson thread about this. I have no idea about the swapped picks, how that would go. Leaving the traded picks portion out of it, here's how it would go.

Trade him to Tampa.

They pickup his 2020 salary of 10.2 million.

We eat the 6 million signing bonus in 2020.

His salary in 2021 is 8 million.

Add together the 2020 & 2021 salaries together=18.2 million.

Then subtract the 6 million signing bonus in 2020 & we now have 12.2 million to spend both yrs combined.

Actually it would save 4.2 million for 2020 & 8 million in 2021.

He'll make 14.2 million in 2020 if he plays for us & 16.2 million if he's traded or cut.

Would make no sense for us to cut him, get nothing for him & still take the cap hit. We need to get something out of him, he's hardly getting any touches now. Why pay someone that type of dough if he only gets 6 touches or less per game?
