Sounds like a great name for a great TV show. In this case I’m thinking of a different direction. So I inquired to my Tampa contacts if the Bucs were interested in DJ. If you’re excited by the Cards’ $72 million cap space in 2020, keep in mind the Bucs will have $90 mil. The Bucs top RB, Ronald Jones, will end with about 1000 yds rushing and receiving. A starting Johnson in BA ‘s offense would likely exceed those numbers and perhaps nearly double them. BA would love to have a receiving RB like Johnson. BA isn’t getting any younger, so it’s time to go for that biscuit. Some have mentioned swapping contracts but Tampa has nothing that could practically be exchanged. If my calculations are correct the Bucs would take on DJ’s $10 mil salary. The Cards would have the obligation for the $6 mil remaining bonus which would count against the 2020 cap. The Cards have to be given something so I suppose they might get a 7th, but maybe they have to also give up a 6th and just get back a 7th. I’ve gotten the feeling that there is a deal to be made. It makes sense for both teams. The Bucs believe they can make a playoff run and Johnson fits. They’re leaning toward keeping Winston. The Cards seem to believe Johnson doesn’t fit KK’s offense, so an extra net of $7 mil (2021 bonus accelerated), would be handy to keep Drake and sign FAs. This is hypothetical, but I like the fit.
