Our oldest player with any impact is Jahidi at 27 and he is brand new to the team.

We have no players with any significant role that are over 30.

To me this has always been the Clippers problem. They have always had great talent but they have never had any great veteran players. These are the players that provide leadership in the locker room and keep their heads in the game.

Great Suns teams of the past have always had a good mix of veteran and young talent.

We could wait for this team to mature, but the vets are necessary in the maturing process. Otherwise young player learn too well how to lose, how to get frustrated, while building little confidence.

Without quality veteran leadership, teams often blow up.

We could use a Danny Ainge, (Paul Westphal, Dennis Johnson, AC Green, Danny Manning) type of player on this roster.

This is what Scott Williams, Penny Hardaway & Googs are supposed to be doing. It's also why we went out and got the best staff of assistants available (if we had only done the same when looking for a head coach we'd be a lot better off).

I am talking about QUALITY vet players. Core type players. None of those three are. Williams and Googs are ghosts of their former selves, and Penny's play has been uninspired at best. Besides, Penny does not have the firey "in the game" type temperament that those other players had.

I try to stay out of all Penny discussion because they get so heated, but Penny just does not provide veteran leadership. Kurt Rambis provided more leadership qualities than Penny.

Last veteran leader with any impact for the Suns was Charles Barkley, IMHO. Sure he's not a role model, but on the court he proved he could get the most out of guys like Oliver Miller. Noone is stepping up and demonstrating leadership on the floor during crunch time. Also, we don't really have a goto guy in the crunch, but rather a bunch of one on one guys. When Amare learns to create his own shot on the low block consistently, then we will start winning a lot of games down the stretch! :D
