Do we really want to play in Mexico with the way they treat us?

Title US Taunted in Soccer Loss

Here's a few experts from the soccer game we played in Mexico...

The crowd booed the U.S. national anthem and a spattering of fans chanted "Osama! Osama!" before play started, and shortly after Lewis' goal.

A few tried to burn a small American flag but ended up trampling on it.

If the NFL or the Cards have any dignity they should pull the game right away. Probaly won't happen. I can't believe the Cards are gonna go play in a stadium with people doing that. Pat Tillman went and died for this country because of Osama, and his former team will be playing in a stadium that erupts in a Osama chant.:thumbdown

i watched the game on Euro sport and did not see or hear any of the above, nor do i have any fealing on how relations are between Mexico and the US but if any of this went on (even if it was a minorty) then the NFL can not just turn a blind eye on it. espc given the feeling of the Cards fans re Tillman etc.

in fact thinking about it its quite pathetic really - its sport ffs.

Remember back when Steve Kerr played for U of A. When the Wildcats played ASU, some of our brilliant students chanted "PLO, PLO!"

They weren't fans of the PLO, but they knew Steve's father was murdered by the them.

Sports fans can be idiots. It's a fact of life.

I also watched the soccer match yesterday. The US has handed it to Mexico the last 7 games and this is their national game. I think the football crowd will be a totally different.

Yeah, I was unfortunately at that game. That was embarassing and disgusting. I was also embarassed when the home fans at a Cardinals game cheered Kent Graham's injury so Plummer could get in the game.

I don't think you can draw much of a correlation between a soccer game and an NFL football game.

I was

thinking the same thing. With the border troubles here. Mexicos alleged support of "could be" terrorists. Getting beyond the football thing now.
It'll be interesting.

if the fans made a big enough deal about it and use something that hates the Cardinals (the media), the game could get pulled. Round up some National Guard's men to say some things on the news and start making a big deal of this. The game should be pulled. Those bastards don't deserve football. If they want to act like a third world country they should be treated like one.

I've got enough on my plate trying to figure out whether we'll have enough weapons in the old arsenal to get us into the playoffs.

Football-wise I'd as soon leave the issue of International Politics & where we play to the politicians and the League Office.

Maybe, when I turn off the football lobe of my brain and switch on the other one - the lobe that watches the Wolfster on CNN or reads the NY Times News of the Week in Review, maybe then I'll get all worked up about the impact of US/Mexico relations on pro football.

But for now - we've got a draft in 3½ weeks to concern ourselves with.

Wow. Do you guys watch soccer much?

That type of behaviour is pretty typical for the round ball game. Soccer has some of worst 'fans' I have ever seen.

Only in Soccer would a woman be stabbed for supporting another team. A few weeks ago someone threw a battery at an oppossing player.

The sport seems to make the scum of the human race rise to the surface when ever a game is played.

But I doubt that those morons would be intreasted in a NFL game. So not to worry.

Yep, this is typical of all countries with soccer as their biggest sport, and people here just dont realize its the fans not the country that is doing this crap.

Soccer crowds are completely different then football fans crowds.

This has no barring what so ever on our game in Mexico.

I think it does... It was predicted that Mexico would do this to us before we even played them. They have always played us really dirty and this isn't the first time they've chanted things like Osama before or burned our flags. They don't do this to all other teams either. The US Soccer teams hate to play Mexico in Mexico for just this reason, they play dirty and the fans hate us more than any other team except for the possibility of some middle eastern teams.

I also bet you anything that their many of their soccer fans are football fans, I bet most of them are from the same fan base. So what your saying is they'll only want Osma to kill us if we play them soccer and they only burn our flag during soccer games? In that case I guess it's ok  (sarcasm)

They are passionate about their soccor. What you call dirty they considor to be hard nosed. They actualy play a similar style to us. But it's their national sport, so you'd expect them to be zealous, and they are.

For the vast majority of Mexicans, they are cool. You do have alot of crime in general there, because there are so many. If you don't know what your doing stay put.

Don't forget the Oakland Raiders are still in the NFL. Their fans fit the above description fairly well.

Way wrong. The new coach and new players may be attempting to switch to a cleaner game, but the Mexicans play as dirty as possible. They attempt to goad players into fights, they foul as much as they can get away with on purpose (and even longer, even after cards sometimes), and generally play a gutless form of football. We do not.

Now, like I said, they may be starting to clean up their act, but until they lose all those players like Blanco (who deliberately tried to start a fight with Beasley, knowing he had a yellow card and hoping to get him suspended from the next Qualifying game), they'll still have the tarnish of 'dirty'. Btw, Blanco quickly DID earn himself a yellow card, and left the game early.

Yeah, Blanco is a punk, I have always hated that fool...

It is very unfortunate that some Mexican fans chose to yell , Osama! (JERKS!!)

And a big part of me would love to see the NFL pull out, but I don't think they will...

I think it is important to realize that it is probably a small minority of Mexican fans that we have to worry about, hopefully they will have more class than yesterday.

Next time we face Mexico, Bruce Arena and the US team needs to show up and train in Mexico City for at least a week to get aclimated to the altitude, so they dont have to take an entire half of soccer off.

Either that, or they should train in Denver--in doors--to get used to the altitude--if they do that, the next time we can shove NAFTA you know where
