The topic is overcooked for sure, but thought this might help clear up the discussion...

Nope. It is what it is. He's the all-time HR leader and he earned it.

We needed another thread on this? MLB is recognizing so not much else really matters.

Age has nothing to with this unless you plan on following up with some BS 'my opinion is right because I'm older and wiser' diatribe. If that's the case (which I'm guessing it is) then please let us all know now.

Stop your whinning dude... I believe there is a correlation between age and your opinion on this topic. Doesn't mean "my" way of thinking is right at all...

Agreed. Doesn't make mine right either, but I also believe there is a correlation. Just different strokes for different folks.

To me, it begins and ends with if he hadn't used steroids he wouldn't have 756 HR. The steroids got him there, not his natural God-given ability.

Yes, I believe it is tainted.

Tainted by those players who used steroids to bury previous records.

Especially tainted by those players who lied about it or refused to answer.

Tainted by the league, owners and managers who knew it was going on, but condoned it for the sake of revenue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's interesting to look at most of the all-time HR leaders. Babe Ruth, a drunk and a womanizer.

McGuire - steroids. Sosa - steroids and corked bats.

Maris - an undeserving overachiever the year he had Mickey Mantle batting behind him with his own 54 HR's.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And it's interesting that the Diamondbacks young prospects are all underachieving, because of management's obsession with going for the homerun.

He probally cheated but even with using steroids its still hard to locate the pitch and know when and what not to swing at, but their is no doubt that he cheated and he will always have to deal with people asking him if used steroids for the rest of his life.

No Doubt that he is a very talented athlete, but he never would have broken the records that he did without cheating. It would have been ok for him to finish his star career and go to the Hall, but since he cheated, it is tainted.

Well, thus far it's 21 to 8, in favor of those who believe Bonds cheated and therefore, the record is tainted...
I guess it would be more useful to attempt to define "tainted", as some here have said they are "over it"... In order to be "over it", does that then imply that you believe something occured that has forced you to get "over it"? If so, what was that something?

I am perfectly willing to accept that Bonds is the new HR king. However, the meaning of his accomplishment and his new HR King title is severely diminished. The HR King has always held a premier and most revered place in baseball, dear I say professional sports history... That position has been dramatically reduced and tarnished. And until A-Rod breaks through whatever the fictious number is that Bonds eventually hangs up, this record will be "tainted"...

But equal among all of the ages, at least as of this post.

I'm over it too. The only thing that occured that forced me to "get over it" was not caring anymore.

Have to admit I'm surprised to see that age is not showing to be a factor - though the sampling is still quite small....

Good for you DCR in getting over it... Personally, I'm just not sure if I'll ever stop caring about cheating - but good for you nonetheless...

It was never hard for me to get over, because I was never all that passionate about it one way or another. He most likely cheated, but up to 40 or 50% of the MLB may have cheated at one time too.

So then since most politicians are cheaters as well, you clearly have no issue with the rigged elections, right??

I say no.

Different era's have different things that make them easier or harder to hit or pitch in, Bonds was still the best of his generation and one of the best of all time. For a game thats so obsessed with numbers and records, baseball is actually one of the more difficult sports to compare from era to era, so I don't get too worked up over records, its pretty silly.
