Pitching staff as pretty weak? I like most of your posts ash, but this is possibly one of the most insanely idiotic statements I have ever heard.
1. Mike Mussina
2. Javier Vasquez
3. Kevin Brown
4. Greg Maddux
5. Lieber/Contreras
Bullpen: Quantrill, Karsay, Heredia, Gordon, Rivera
This has the potential to be one of the most dominating pitching rotations in the history of baseball.
Mussina - IMO vastly overrated (disappeared during the playoffs the past couple of years)
Vasquez - Good pitcher but has shown signs of inconsistency and who knows what the pressure of being in his first pennant race will do to him (not to mention the pressure for playing for the Yanks)
Brown - Great pitcher when healthy. A true ace but the problem is he has chronic back and elbow problems. Hard to rely on him with a past history like that.
Maddux - Sure HOFer but has been on the decline the past couple of years. Many regard him as a 6 inning pitcher. I just don't think he will do well in Yankee Stadium with the short porch in LF and RF (not to mention the fact that he was battling injuries all of last year as well)
Leiber - Good pitcher when healthy but just came off of a major injury
Could be damn good if everything went their way in terms of injuries but I just don't see it happening. They are really going to miss Pettite come playoff time IMO
Still like their bullpen though
