Or conversely, if the agents are asking for unrealistic contracts then the onus is on them to compromise.

Why the assumption that it is the Cardinals that are the roadblock, they wern't with Fitz.

if you reread my post you'll realize that i didn't make that assumption. i was working purely off of the comments made by others earlier in the thread that the cards were lowballing the signing bonus. don't be so quick to put words into my mouth. nowhere did i say i assumed that. and yet again an objective statement that i make is twisted by the koolaid convention to contain some insidious plot against the cardinal organization...sheesh.

Since Rod Graves took over these things seem to have gone much smoother
I think Rod needs to take over, or at least get more involved, with these last two negotiations. If he hasn't already...

if you have to get as much guaranteed money as possible. if the signing bonus is a lowball offer, the player HAS to hold out, third rounder or not. detach emotion and look at the situation objectively.

Are these guys incapable of doing anything other than football? I've wanted to say this since the first draft negotiations....... NFL players make way too much! To say it is justified to hold-out against a career-ending injury is silly. Injuries are common. Career-enders are not. But, on the remote chance that you do have a career-ender, do you have any knowledge on the insurance policies and player association pensions/retirements that are out there? Give me $200,000 "guaranteed money", 1/2 million in insurance, and (if I've been in the league 3 years) my NFL retirement and I ain't gonna complain too much.

And I dare you to say football is more dangerous than being a cop, fireman, soldier, sailor, airman, or marine. Do you think these people wouldn't go get another job if they were injured and could no longer perform?

Let's not give these guys any more justification for making more cash. They make money because they are entertainers. Entertainers.

Read the biography about Pat Tillman and you'll understand.

I love football, but, not so much that I don't maintain a perspective.

You must be a republican. I don't want to hear about perspective. Can you put into perspective what the owners make? Or how about the networks? Why would you begrudge the guys that are risking limb and in some respect life out on the playing field?
What I don't understand is how a player ,KNOWING how the system works, decides to "join" the nfl and the tries to circumvent the system and hold out for more than the guy drafted ahead of him.

Case in point.... look at how the Poston's are handling the Kellen Winslow negotiations, stating that slotting Winslow is "insignificant" in negotiations because most teams rated the six top players fairly equal.

The Cards now have two/three solid years of negotiating in good faith under Rod Graves.

At what point to you say that history is just that. When Rod says that we have fair deals on the table, I'm willing to give him a bit more leeway than I would have previously.

Go Cards!!!

The owners make too much. The networks make too much. I was ripping on society and not the poor players. Though I do think they (and their agents) are pretty greedy. I begrudge them because I've seen 18 yr olds running around a flight deck for 12-14 hours for 6 months at a time and in 140 degree heat. They're half-way around the world defending your freedom and working in THE MOST DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT IN THE WORLD! I've seen videos and read reports of these kids getting sucked into jet intakes, getting blown over the side and chopped up or drowned, getting cut in half by cables, and getting run over or crushed. Take a guess at how much they make? $25,000 on the average. "Life or limb" - give me a break. So, you blow out a knee. You still have 3 million in the bank and don't have to work another day for the rest of their lives. Poor babies. Again, read the Pat Tillman biography. He made a lot of money (relative to these young kids on the carrier flight deck) but struck home when he said he "hadn't done a damn thing". NFL players are entertainers. Period. Not heros. Not warriors. Entertainers.

$25,000 is a lot of money for an 18 year old. Especially when they have free room and board and medical care and don't need a car. I would assume that you have little need for an automobile on an aircraft carrier.

Nobody makes "too" much money. Rich people don't bury their money in the backyard. They put it into banks who loan it to me to expand my business so I can afford to buy tickets to Cardinal games and subscribe to NFL season ticket.

But then this is a discussion for the politics board.

Nice for once that the holdouts are not critical players. (Before you argue that point remember that I am Russell Davis' #1 fan in Texas.) :D
