Did you listen to Darnell Dockett's interview with MJ?

I don't blame him one bit and I think pretty much everything he said was honest---he missed 13 practices in 10 years, only 2 games prior to this season, played hurt, busted his tail even during losing streaks, played in practices with cracked ribs when other players missed 8 games with cracked ribs.

And he had what so few Cardinal players have had over the years a now---a beast mode switch.

I asked MJ today what players on the current Cardinals' defense have that switch. He said Calais (agree), Foote (who is now a coach) and that hopefully Patrick Peterson will step up (really?---the guy is afraid of tackling, just ask Marshawn Lynch, and he's one of the three most gifted punt returners on the planet and he won't return punts).

What was particularly troubling to hear from Darnell was that even when he came back to see if the Cardinals would match the 49ers' offer, neither Michael Bidwill nor Steve Keim even spoke to him.

Bidwill, who went to bat publicly for Fitz, apparently has not said one word to Dockett during this entire process.

The only time he heard from Keim was one time a few weeks ago when he informed Dockett he would have to take a pay cut. That's it.

For a player and highly passionate, dedicated leader who has been with the Cardinals for 10 years?

That is bad.

At least, Dockett had nothing but praise for BA. Said BA has reached out to him a couple of times and that BA deserves all the accolades he gets---that BA has treated him like a man, as has BA's wife, BA's son and BA's son's wife. Dockett said that if he doesn't get into the Cardinals' Ring of Honor at least he knows he will always have the relationships he forged with BA, BA's family and many of his most cherished Cardinal teammates.

What the 49ers did is they took a $2M gamble on Dockett---forget the rest of the contract numbers. All that matters is the guaranteed money. If Dockett shows up and is good to go, he can double the $2M into $4 for this season.

Seems like a very small number to pay for an alpha dog who could be the NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

Guess the Cardinals were not willing to take that gamble. And to tease Dockett with ridiculous incentives was a joke, and in my opinion, an embarrassment.

If everything you say is true, it would appear as though upper echelon management have been fed up with his act for a while, and makes me wonder if they really wanted him to stick around.

I think when you're telling pre-teen kids to stay away from strippers, you might be offending the organization

This is football.

If the Cards signed Dockett and he was a shell of himself everyone would be blasting management for signing him.

It's the cycle of football. Calais will be gone some day as will all of them . Every players career can't finish with a fairy tale ending.

If the Cards use the money to sign productive players and win a trophy , by this time next year everyone will be saying Darnell who?

Sorry but it's hard for me to feel too bad about guys that have made MILLION AND MILLIONS of dollars. They enjoy a life none of us will ever have the chance to even imagine life in there shoes.

Bye D.D. Good luck and thanks for the good times.

Dockett is a very passionate guy and some people are best left not approached with a explanation because their emotions will make it a trying experience for a owner... do you see Dockett being reasonable and calm with such an explanation lol

Boo who

How do you think Steelers fans feel about Polumalu today or Patriot fans about Wilfork. Its football it sucks but it is what it is. He said he was offended they asked him to take a pay cut. He said his work ethic alone was worth more than tje Cardinals offered him. This team won 11 games last year overcoming all kinds of adversity with him not playing one snap.

Lets be honest even before he got hurt he wasn't much of a factor

Hey I love Dockett but he is a very prideful (an loyal) guy. There wasn't going to be a great way for him to be released. I will say this for the Cards, they are running it like a business like the Patriots have done for years. They brought back Fitz because he is the face of the franchise. DD is too lose a cannon to be the face of the franchise but he was the soul of the franchise.

Keim made his approach to Free Agency clear. This is the market value our experts have decided and this is our offer. Take it or leave it.

DD's cap hit was something that needed to be addressed and the FO approached it like free agency. For an aging player coming off an ACL tear, I think it was a good business decision. Don't get me wrong, I hate to see DD go but for the long term health of the organization I think it was the right move.

Free agency is pretty good this year and we can use the cap savings to fill out a few areas. Every mil that we save can also be another Dansby, Cromartie, Foote, Abraham, Kelly type player that makes an impact.

Also, weren't there pretty recent reports of players starting to roll their eyes at DD's leadership? If that is the case, then perhaps he had ran his course and perhaps it's better for the health of the locker room as well.

In the end though, I think it was a smart business decision. I wish DD well.

Whatever. I loved Dock and he was #birdgang. But he is done, he had a decent offer for a dude his age and injury status and left it in order to take a slightly larger deal with a division rival that he has professed to hate over the years...and after giving noted mercenary Dansby static for chasing the money the year before.

Dock goes to a team in turmoil that missed the playoffs, lost their coach, lost their star RB, hired a nobody as HC and is on a tailspin, instead of signing with the team that brought him up, a coach that he obviously respects, with a eye on improving from an injury riddled 11 win playoff season. HE chose to go to SF and test the market rather than taking the deal on the table. Mr. Loyalty my ass.

Niner-0 can suck a fat one as he tweets about his last place in the NFC West team next season.

So 9-0 did what "a real pro" does by showing up to practices banged up, played games hurt, was a well respected leader & played thru losing streaks? That's his freaking job & the very good ones do that in the NFL, athletics & the real world!!!

Maybe DD was telling the "whole truth" about his potential return or maybe not. IMO there is no use in him or the Cards organization to get into a pissing war of words & further fractioning what once was a great working partner relationship.

It's done, move on, shake hands & move forward because that's life in the NFL & professional sports though it's not an easy thing to do.

Better to release a player 1 year early than 1 year to late. This same thing we shortly take place with Palmer, Fitz & others & I bet they don't lash out with hostility like DD did today.

Mitch, good points (I thought if he re-signed it would be because of Arians, so that doesn't surprise me) but.....

I think the fans deserved better from Dockett. People have spent their hard-earned money on 9-0 jerseys and game tickets. Our own ASFN'ers held up signs supporting him during training camp at Flag. The fans deserved something other, something better, than a tweet from Rosenhaus of his client, a much-loved player, signing a contract to play for a much-hated rival. DD has a twitter account. He should have posted his was leaving and thanked the fans.

I am sad to see DD go to San Francisco. I respect the time and effort he put in here with the Cardinals, and the blood, sweat, and tears he lost doing it. What I have a hard time respecting is that he is doing exactly what he called Dansby out on for leaving for better money. If one lives in a glass house, he shouldn't engage in rock throwing. This is a part of the side of DD that I do not admire, the side that lets his mouth say things that come back to roost in his nest.

What's sad to me.. Dockett claims loyalty over all.. he left his boys here in the desert over 500k when he's made over $50M+ during his career.

A great big boohoo for DD.And I am sure that everything DD said was the total truth (the way he saw it).His whole routine sounds like sour grapes. He could have stayed. He chose differently.End of story.:bigyawn:

BS.

Why are we to even believe Dockett said in the interview? He's been all over the place with his statements throughout his career.

The Cards treated DD very well for 11 years... They treated him as he deserved and got 50 million for it. I have to disagree with you, Mitch.

This x100. Love what he did while in a Cards uniform. Now I hope we beat him up twice a year. Fan of the team above any player.

The cardinals did nothing wrong here, Mitch obviously a dockett fan, as was I but for him to go to the niners.... Suck a fat one dockett! Can't wait to bring some dollar bills to the Cards vs. Niners game and wave them around for DD, or do the Manziel money sign in his direction. I imagine there will be some nice signs for him at that game as well. This will do wonders for the Cards vs. Niners series at least for the next two seasons. I hope he gets booed as loudly as the Seahawks' players at the Pro Bowl when he comes to UOP.
