MESA! :thud:
The first time I use "Imma" I'll break my own fingers. Pencil me in with the white honky elitist crowd.
 Right there with you, brother (about the breaking the fingers part...not sure if I qualify for "white honky elitist").

I am convinced the people who don't think he is going to be a good NFL player haven't seen him play multiple games...

Which is why I haven't really said good, or bad things, about Newton. Typically refrain from discussing players I haven't seen play.

Cam Newton should give half of his rookie salary to Mike Vick, because if it weren't for him tearing it up this season in the NFL people wouldn't be nearly as excited about another hybrid QB. I am not sold on him at all.

Bad argument.
I guess he owes the other half to Peyton Manning because he can pass too.

For some reason I get the impression that colour of skin affects how some people evaluate Newton whether that is positively or negatively effecting it.

Not sure about that. I think its the fact that he can run. Real qb's shouldn't be able to do that, or if they can they just shouldn't anyway.

Here is the reasoning. qb's who run in college have not been good passing qb's in the nfl (even though historically running college qb's were in stuff like the option and veer etc, or were small speedy types whose physical stature would become a deficiency in the nfl). Therefore, all good college running qb's must be questionable projects as pros, even if they are 6-5 250, have huge arm strenghth, excellent accuracy and have the potential of setting the all-time ncaa record for passing effeciency.

I am going to want to watch every minute that Newton plays next year, wherever he is drafted. He is going to be the type of player that is on highlights every week. Even if his team struggles, he will be there--unless he gets drafted by a coach with no vision who buries him on the bench.

Well and I am saying that it is different for the QB position.

It's basically the same thing JCSunsfan said because people assume that a black QB is automatically an inferior passer and superior runner.

I am pretty sure that Newton would be the undisputed #1 pick if he was white because he would get more credit for his passing and the running would be seen as a nice plus.

I think I'd rather pass on Newton for the best defender or OL at #5 and -- if we're dead-set on pining next season on a rookie -- move back into the bottom of the first to get one of the remaining kids.

I'm not saying Newton WON'T be a great pro, I'm just a little gunshy about the Cardinals ability to make that position work and a top-5 pick is a big investment.

187 was saying Vick is changing all that. He just isn't on our Camwagon. (copyrights reserved) :D

Don't think its a black/white thing. Tebow had the same perception problem last year--except that his passing actually WAS suspect. In fact, Tebow is part of the problem. QB's who can run just all get dumped into the same category.

Elway was considered quite a runner when he entered the league.

I dont want us to take anyone. When was the last time we hit with a top-10 pick? Save the money and trade down or just skip the pick until it gets to #11.

Are you confident that the Cards can take the top OL prospect at 5 because I am not at all base don past history. If a guy doesn't score TDs don't waste a top 10 pick on him IMO. Tomlinson instead of L. Davis and All-Day over Levi. Fitz over Gallery the list goes on and on. Newton has much higher upside/ impact than any O-line prospect.

I would rather get some defensive help and pass on a QB. As others have said the Cardinals would probably screw up the selection if they go QB.
