Exactly right Ed. Whoever we sign, we're going to pay more than anyone else would. So, get some quality. At least four or five guys. We're well set for managing the cap in the future.

Well it depends. if we overpay on Colvin that's great, if we overpay on Holliday not so great, Kordell bad you get my drift? Overpaying on a good player, as Ed said, is livable. The problem is you look around the league and everyone is convinced they're doing that exact thing and 1-2 years later they're dumping those players.

I posted the other day the same thing Ed posted, we may actually be unable to spend the required % of the cap without just tossing bags of money to lousy players. That means you have to do something to break the logjam, either come out in support of the coach so players know he's here to stay, or sign a big name guy like Colvin and make a statement that way.

It's amazing what losing Boston did to my perception of this offseason, losing Jake is not an issue for me, but all of a sudden losing Boston seems to make it so much harder to sign ANYBODY.

I agree. Losing Boston was big. Let's face it...A qb wants the big time WR. QBs (like chicks) dig the long ball. So, who do we have that is that threat and commands respect? No one.

Graves screwed us bigtime by his First FA blunder....

I am not saying the team wont sign FA's-they have to-hell you have to spend the minimum, but it wont be anyone to get excited about.

My assumptions are about as baseless as your assumptions that the Cards are activly persuing "a lot of the better FA's on the market' If you consider bringing them into visit and watching them leave 'pursuing' then I have some swamp land in FL to sell you.

How are my assumptions baseless? We have brought in almost every top rated player in FA, and offered multiple contracts....that IS persuing guys....not necessarily bringing them in for keeps, but persuing nonetheless.

I wonder how that "groundwork" they wanted to lay in order to impress Emmitt Smith is coming along

Face it, we're gonna have to overpay Kordell, Griese, or Blake really badly to come here. They're gonna demand a 50% markup if they have to come in here and throw at Jason McAddley and Kevin Kasper.

I hear the Bears have a fellow named "Booker".

That's swell from a PR standpoint, but unless we sign some of these guys, it's all (in the words of that great statesman, Jim Mora): "Diddly Poo."
