Did you read how Stern said they would try and win fans back??? Good luck with that.

yeah, the on on the fence fans will either get hooked on another sport, or just forget the NBA altogether. I think the average fan sees people fighting over money and finds it frustrating, while many of us struggle to pay bills on time.

When the NBA does get back we'll see how the support for it goes. Most people i've talked to could care less, and the economy isn't exactly solid. I think the NBA will find that out when and if it starts back up.

Obama asks Colangelo to help

President Obama asked Jerry Colangelo to help solve the NBA lockout at the annual meeting of the National Italian American Foundation, of which JC is the Chairman and Barry O'Bomber was the featured speaker.

Colangelo greeted the President as he stepped off the helicopter at the Washington Hilton.

"We went to a room next to the dais, and I hadn't really met him before," Colangelo said.

"He looked over to me, held out his hand and said, 'Jerry, you've got to help solve this lockout. We've got to get hoops going again.'

"I told him, 'I'm as close as a telephone.' "

In an otherwise good post I don't understand this remark.
When President Obama was playing basketball, his teammates nicknamed him Barry O'Bomber (shooting from the perimeter?)

No harm meant then. No harm meant now.

I learn something new everyday.

Too bad someone does not get JC involved to help fix this lockout mess. I think someone of his stature might help. There are too many egos flying high for my taste. Both sides need to eat some humble pie before it is too late.

Have you guys read what Etan Thomas wrote on ESPN.com? He sent 23 questions to the owners. Actually, the way I see it, they were directed at the fans. Here's the link:

http://espn.go.com/espn/commentary/story/_/id/7223340/etan-thomas-questions-nba-labor-negotiations

I created a blog and posted answers to each of the questions, from a fan's perspective. It was probably a waste of time, but if you guys would like to take a look, it's here:

I couldn't make it past question 10 without wanting to throw up in my mouth. I'm feeling like both sides are to blame here. I don' know the ends and outs of this situation so I am just an ignorant fan that loves the NBA and will watch when they come back either way. But I do think they have wasted away a lot of momentum that they had from last season. They are going to lose a lot of money over this.

I admire the players for standing strong, but in my opinion the owners are going to win this battle. and that's the way it should be. they are cutting the checks right? I don't feel sorry for NBA players. I think they have too much control if you ask me because of the way the system has been.... everyone knows the players control the NBA. As a NBA fan I do think that if the NBA follows the business model of the NFL that the sport will grow and more money will be generated. Will the players get fat checks and get to have their own jet planes? no they will have to get smart and earn their paycheck. I don't blame them for not wanting to relinquish this power, but as a fan I'm hoping this happens. If it doesn't work out I know the mavericks will be ok, but I do think the small market teams are getting crushed under the current system. and the players seem to not care or just overlook that aspect. there are too many nba markets that accept a losing culture and the players seem to be ok with it as long as they are getting paid.

This isn't like the football strike where you have saftey concerns and owners trying to add games to the schedule. This is ALL about money right? They are all millionaires or should be if they have a brain....of corse we know many of them don't. If they are willing to negotiate the players better take a deal if they want to get paid.

another thing I don't understand is why are the spares...in charge of the players union? Not that I want lebron james and dwayne wade in charge lol...

I think Screamin A Smith does all sports. His primary focus is basketball, however.

azcentral.com has Paul Coro doing UofA athletics now along with the tiny bit of information he can report from the Suns/NBA.

I didn't really think I was going to miss basketball that much, especially because the Suns were gonna blow anyway this season. But even so, now that we're into the season...

I really miss having Suns games to watch when I get off work. And week night games on ESPN too. #screwthelockout :(

It sure doesn't help that the Arizona Cardinals are bad. I miss being able to watch several Suns games a week rather than waiting for the Cardinals do their train wreck once a week. I also miss being able to talk about Suns basketball even if it is not good. The lapse of time between sporting events has become boring. As for me, Sun Devil football and basketball are no help at all.

So JR Smith was injured in his first game in China, but apparently it wasn't serious. On the other hand, he may be waived soon:
J.R. Smith is frustrating the management of his Chinese team (Zhejiang Golden Bulls) and could be waived in the near future.
Apparently a presidential suite, private chef, and insurance weren't enough, as he also requested another villa, as well as a chauffered car for the commute to practice. He's also missed three of those due to "illness," but was caught shopping in Shanghai on one of those days. In other words, nothing has changed. In fact, this is one of the more normal news items we've seen during the lockout. And somewhere, George Karl is smiling.

Reportedly, a 66-game season would be played if season starts on Christmas.

Wow, that's an incredibly compressed schedule. The 1999 season started at the beginning of January and had only 50 games, and even then there were three-in-a-rows. Even if they pushed the start of the playoffs back until mid-May, they're looking at maybe 18 or 19 weeks, which means an average of a game every other day. Brutal.

Actually the 99/00 season started in February, so there would be an extra month this season, plus the extra two weeks if playoffs are pushed back.

Still, any increase in back-to-backs won't be good for Nash, Hill and the Suns who generally struggle in those games.

Again does not shock me. Sarver being a hard-liner never made sense. The Suns are not one of the small market teams or teams that produced losses.
They made unpopular decisions to make sure they always stay profitable. So Sarver would probably like to have some system changes to not have to make those kind of decisions again but certainly not extreme demands that other teams would have.

Dang...a 66 game season starting on Christmas. That seems kind of crazy.

Last season the Suns played 54 games after Christmas.

Shorter season = less burnout down the stretch and in the post-season.

Damn nice of the NBA to accommodate Nash and Hill, if they do.

If it isn't agreed to this time, perhaps they can start in February. :D

Yeah, but likely fewer days off between games.

So with the exception of Miami, the older teams want to play a season this year. Makes sense, i guess since their players have limited seasons left.
The Suns are also the only non-playoff team on that (albeit) short list. The other four teams were all and still are title contenders.
