From the wire:
"Packers nose tackle Grady Jackson could hold out or seek a trade if the Green Bay Packers don't improve his contract, his new agent said Wednesday.

The 340-pound Jackson has a year left on a two-year, $2.31 million deal. Drew Rosenhaus said Jackson, 32, is a "premier player" on the Packers defense and should be paid that way.

"He's obviously underpaid for his position and level of contribution," he said."
Is it greed, insantity or some of both???

Second year of a freakin' two year deal to begin with... I just don't see why a NFL GM would even consider this. Now say Jackson comes into camp and continues to perform at a high level during this season then talk about extension/new contract becomes tenable. Even then, at 32 years old, it will be a short term deal.

Does anyone think Rosenhaus' methods are proving to be beneficial for anyone, himself included? I know of only one case (Portis) where his methods have proven to bring about a benefit, and the Redskins and Joe Gibbs might question that situation. I personally feel, if he continues to be so obtuse that he will worm his way right out of the business, no one will want to deal with him...

Well I think Rosenhouse's belief is if any team can cut a player at any time if the player is doing poorly than that player should get a raise if he plays better than what he was supposed to get paid.. I kind of agree with that idea but then there's the signing bonus... The draft is still the biggest ripoff for teams I think overall though...

Ya wanna solve the contract issues, here ya go:

The longest contract a player or team is allowed to sign is 1 YEAR ONLY, and it is guarenteed for the entire year regardless of injury/performance, etc.

At the end of the year the team places all players they want back on thier team on a right of 1st refusal term.

Any player not placed on right of 1st refusal is concidered a free agent and can choose to resign with the current team or sign with any other team in the league.

Players placed on 1st refusal have the right to negotiate a contract with ANY team it chooses, however the original team that had him under contract can match any offer and retain that player for the next year.

If the player does not negotiate a contract with any other team the original team retains thier contract with a minimum 1 year raise of 5% (cost of living increase).

If the team who had the player under contract originally has tehm as a right of 1st refusal and that player agrees to a contract with another team AND he is in his 1st 4 years of being in the NFL and the original team choses not to match the offer then the offering team has to sacrifice a draft pick equal to the players original draft round. (i.e. player is taken in the 2nd round, is in the 3rd year and agrees with team 2, team 1 doesnt match, team 2 gets the player, team 1 gets team 2's 2nd round pick in the next draft)

No more worries about players holding out, no more worries about teams underpaying a player from year to year.

is in this all for himself. I'm amazed that interviewers don't rip this guy up. I saw his pompous ass on PTI and even those two treated him with baby powder. Amazing.
