This isn't 2003 these rooks will actually have to work to see the field. There were some talented players in the 2005 draft (five rated in top 75) and even they are having a hard time getting PT.

When you break down the players:

Levi Brown should start from day 1.

Branch should at least see some spot duty.

Same with Davis.

Breaston will probably lead the PT unit.

The only question mark is Patrick.

Brown should start ..

Branch will be rotating in .. situational playing time .. and it may increase as the season progresses ..

Davis will play in the 3-4 ... or rotate in with Beisel ..

Breaston will compete with Morey for return man ..

Due to lack of depth at TE Patrick could see some playing time .. unless we bring in a vet TE ..

Just IMO ...

The luck the Cardinals have had a LB is about 50% and Buster Davis may be the next............What happened to this guy? Pick.

50% is being EXTREMELY generous.

We hit on Hayes and Dansby, missed on Johnson, Blackstock, Mitchell ... and I think there's another that I'm missing. And that's just in the last couple of years. I'm not even going back to the Mac years.

They will all be on the team, the five picks. Some will be on the practice squad. As for the UFA very few if any will make the team. From the 20 we will be lucky to keep 3 or 4.

Without anything logical to back it up, I agree all five will make the team but none of them will be on the practice squad.

Think of each pick one at a time, look at our roster at his position, and name the ones who are better than the draftees are reputed to be. I did this.

Only MLB Buster Davis would be my 3rd ranked player at his position and he won't be released for at least a season even if he's a bust.

Every draftee has bust potential and very few teams hit on most of their picks.

As far as UFA, I agree again - very few will last past camp. That's actually positive and I hope we start keeping fewer and fewer UFAs. Until we do, our backups won't be talented enough to nurture for a year of two and then move up into the starting lineup.

Once we do that, we might actually set up for a multi-year playoff year.

Yeah, Kool-Aid. Why bother thinking small?

Patrick is a long shot...not because he was a 7th rounder but because, from what I have read (I am never saw him play that I recall) he is Pope but not as good.

I only say no because of Patrick...I don't know much about him although the Movin' The Chains guys really love him and were shocked to see him fall.

Not only will these other guys get PT, but all of them will start at some point in the season.

Levi no brainer, starter from day one.

Branch will start, majority of the season probably.

Buster will work his way into the starting lineup midseason at least.

Breaston will be our starting PR from day one, and KR by end of year.

And Bain will see time in dime formations or if there's an injury to our top three. He makes the team.

The strong arm QB makes the PS at least.

Yes and I say that with confidence. We only had five picks and all in needed spots.

Of course. This is the off season where dreams come true. However, I do think all five players have a good shot at making the roster. Now I'm just as interested to see what FA's make the roster.

Every pick addressed a need. Normally the guys most at risk of not making the squad are the later picks, and we only had a 5th (who I think will be our #1 KR/PR) and a 7th (who just about every knowledgeable draftnik said was a steal). I say each guy makes the 53-man roster and each should see some playing time.

No, Patrick can block. And he has good hands. Pope only has good hands.

Depends on which scouting report you choose to read. I have read he can block and I have read his blocking is horrible.

LOL, good point. He didn't exactly play for a school we would see on a weekly basis. :)

I took this off the NFL.com site:

Positives: Has a thick frame with adequate muscle tone, smooth skin, good chest and arm thickness, good bubble, big shoulders and good upper body muscles with a frame that could carry at least another 10 pounds of bulk … Compensates for a lack of speed with good balance and body control through his route progression … Has good balance with the ball in his hands, running with a normal stride … His body control, hand/eye coordination and large hands will generally see him catch most balls away from his frame … His hands and size give quarterbacks a good short-area target, as he can bounce off defenders … Knows how to use his size and reach to get a clean push off the jam and is too big for second-level defenders to attempt to try and reroute him … Best when sitting down underneath … Knows how to use his body to push and leverage defenders and while no explosion is evident, he does a good job of using his frame to shield the ball from defenders … When he uses his body and squares his shoulders, Anderson is a load to bring down in isolated coverage … Won't win any foot races, so he has to use his power base to break tackles … Has good balance and body lean to gain valid yardage after the catch … Too stiff to extend and reach for the ball at its high point, but does have the ability to look the ball in and catch away from the frame … Does a good job of squaring his shoulders after the catch and has the functional flexibility (yet has stiff hips), to turn and run with the ball … Might show some flinch working in a crowd, but he has no problems catching outside his frame … Gets most of his separation by squaring his shoulders and generating the leg drive to break tackles.

Negatives: Methodical mover who lacks suddenness or good timed speed, but is effective getting a clean release and into his routes when working in the short area … Despite his size, Patrick is more of a finesse type who will shy away from contact, especially when asked to block … Has good strength, but seems to lack the desire to sustain and defenders can push him back into the pocket, making him a liability in pass protection … Lacks the quick-twitch moves or second gear to get into his routes quickly … Labors when running longer routes and is better served working in the short area over the middle than having him attack the second level … Doesn't have the speed to separate or the loose hips to elude … Has good hand/eye coordination, but seems to back off confrontations in a crowd … Has the upper body strength to make reach blocks or neutralize linebackers at the second level, but lacks the lower body strength and hand placement to lock on and sustain when blocking along the line … Gets too narrow in his stance and lacks good footwork in his kick slide.

Compares To: Mike Seidman-Carolina … Patrick is a very inviting short-area target with natural hands and the size to shield the ball from defenders … He lacks good technique and urgency as a blocker, and does not have the valid speed to be a vertical threat … He is best when used on controlled or underneath routes, as he shows good ball security

Geez, sounds like a romance novel...
