Defense gets 2 pts regardless of whether the opposing team kicks from the 15 or tries for 2 from the two.

No, however, now on a blocked kick (think Leon Lett snowbowl), if the defense that blocks tries to pick it up in the field of play, but for some reason backtracks into the endzone and gets tackled, it would be a 1 point safety. I heard this on the radio (Dan Patrick Show) on Friday. They were wondering if something like this would ever happen and they all thought no. I say, never say never.
