It's certainly going to be a different draft now I think...somber, maybe some of the excitement has been taken away...

But what happened today is just bigger than all of that.

Quite frankly I have lost all my desire to get psyched up for the draft after today. I was thinking about heading down to Jackson's with my boys but have decided to not do that now. Seems a "waste" of my time to hang out in a bar and watch generally ungrateful punks become millionaires while the thought of our soldiers DYING is so firmly entrenched in my head.

Think I will take my boys to the park (maybe the zoo too) and enjoy some time with them...life is short and we get all these constant reminders of it yet we so often ignore the reminders.

I can't listen to the mock draft on KDUS today like nothing is different. Everything today is different and it's time to reflect.

It's not going to be the happy, fun-fest I usually have with my brother and sister, that's for sure. It doesn't seem like a lot of things matter right now.

Some guy on Fox was just talking about how great Pat was and how Eli is a threatening to sit out all year and that maybe Eli should change his mind about things. Personally, I don't give a damn what the guy does.

BTW, the dude also said he thinks they should make the 40 yard line red, white and blue. Said it would be nice to have parents explain to their kids why that yard line was the way it was. I doubt it will happen, but I couldn't agree with the guy more.

What'a great idea...I would love to tell my kids why the line is colored that way...

NO. This message board has just been a diversion for what is happening in Iraq/Afghanistan. It's more personal now. I have been feeling that draft talk and sports in general are unhealthy diversions (outlets) for Americans, considering all that is happening around us, but releases our helplessness to do anything constructive. Maybe we here on this board can figure out something to DO that will help as the ASFN family. Along with the Cardinals family.

Unfortunately their have been (too) many sad days recently for many families. I'm at a loss for words.

It doesn't, does it?

However, Pat died protecting our way of life. That includes congregating as a group in the name of football (his sport). I think whatever draft parties are excellent places and tomorrow is an excellent time to remember him and tell each other stories. Just think of it as hundreds of little memorial services.

That's excellent. Everyone should try to be a little more Pat.

I would love to see that, and tell that story.

What an incredible set of bookends for today's news--

on one hand we have the number one pick in the draft making demands on where he will play for his millions of dollars.....

and then on the other side we learn of a guy who didnt just give up a big NFL contract, but gave his life serving his country.

It certainly puts things into perspective, but Tillman and all of the other service men and women out there are fighting and dying protecting our way of life, which as silly as it seems at times like this, is enjoying and following sports teams with passion and I plan on enjoying the draft tomorrow as much if not more than ever because of the sacrifice Tillman and others have made so I can. Im just going to make sure and enjoy it with family and friends and realize how lucky we all are... And I will remember to thank all of our armed forces present and past for the life they allow us to live...

I think it does matter, and from what all Tillman's friends/family have said about him, he would certainly want no one to doing/say/feel anything special for him.

Its a sad day, but Life must go on! Bless You Pat Tillman

Never Forget

Pat's life and the way he led it are far more articulate and poetic than anything mere words can say.

Let each of us remember in our own way how he lived (and how he died) and use it for guidance and inspiration in how we lead our own lives from here forward.

Enjoy the draft!!

As someone who's spent 15 of the past 24 months in the middle east, I can say from experience that when we we're over there, we really hope that America is operating as normally as possible.

On Christmas, we smile to think that little kids are all over America opening presents without worrying that someone will kick their door in.

The average American serviceman didn't sign up because he/she supported a specific war or president. They hope their service can allow those of us stateside to enjoy our lives as much as possible.

So if you like football, and agonize over the draft, then by all means do it again tomorrow. Just pause for a second and reflect that it's guys like Pat that make it possible.

What would Pat say?

I don't know....but he would probably say life goes on.

His passing does show that there are more important things than football.

For me it will not be the normal draft weekend.....but the team should dedicate everything to Pat....including a decent draft so that we can have a decent year.

He would probably like that.

Tilman was a good player. I did not know the guy so I cant mourn more for him than any other soldier, sailor, airman or marine. However, with all due respect can we please refrain from bringing politics and the war into this site. I come here to escape all that. For the record I disagree with the war in Iraq. At very least he died in Afghanistan. I also disagree with using the death of a person to motivate a team to win or have a good draft. His life is worth more than being used as a motivation tool. I think it would be appropriate for this forum to remember him as a football player and a person. Thank you.

I guess we disagree.

Dedication means honor.

When my son was killed in a car accident his teammates dedicated the final game to him.

Like I said....Pat would probably want us to watch the draft.....not give up on life as usual because of his death.

It's a very tough time for all of us and I'm sorry if my post came off wrong. I'm sad.....pissed.....and drunk.

For those like me who have lost relatives this event brings up the memories that haunt you for a lifetime. You see someone that looks like your son. You remember your sons service for his country. You have the flag and the bullets from the gun salute. Everytime you hear Amazing Grace on the bagpipes you cringe.

I never used the word motivation and that's not what I meant.

I'm just hoping a tribute for this guy is in order. I'm a little pissed off when I hear people say it was just another death. Many of us have lost loved ones and I'm not saying you should dishonor them but this situation is a tad different.

This is a man that turned down $3.6 million dollars for $18,000 and possible death...in his case the ultimate sacrifice.

Making the 40 yard lines red on all NFL fields.....a Hall of Fame membership.... a retired jersey......Tillman Stadium.

Nothing is too much.

I'll still watch the draft tomorrow.....I'll just be interested....not happy.

It matters, but not like before.

I believe most people that volunteer for the military do it so life at home can continue, to ensure our values and rights are protected.

Right now things basically suck to sum it up. We lost a great person. It will be difficult to enjoy or even watch the draft this year but in my opinion Pat Tillman would want life to go on.

Losing Pat Tillman puts a different view of the draft, football is just a game. So the draft matters for the future of the Cardinals, to us fans but not as much as we thought 24 hours ago.

Thank you Pat Tillman, R.I.P.

Pat Tillman would say-

Hell Yes, enjoy the draft, that's one of the things wer'e fighting for!! He was without a doubt the ultimate free spirit, from pole sitting and meditating on the highest light fixture at SunDevil stadium to riding his bike to practice when others were in their shiny Escaldes, to training for an iron man competition to prove he could just DO IT !! He was also at the top of his class at ASU. I loved watching him play as a Devil and again watching his first training camp as a Cardinal, wondering when they were going to stop talking about his size not being at the Pro Level. But he proved them wrong and when he was on the field he was all over it , a real Ball Hawk. I loved watching him play, he reminded me of another favorite Chuck Cecil in the hard headed way he played, all stops out. One of my most treasured Cardinal Jerseys is a Tillman #40 I used to wear to the games. At one of the Football 101 for Women nights, at the training facility he and Jake were there and all the women lined up for autographs, he signed my jersey on the shoulder and I told him I Loved to watch him play, he smiled and said, I like your jersey!! I loved his frank way of talking and will never forget after a loss some one caught him on camera coming out of the locker room and asked him what he thought was wrong and as only Pat could put it he looked right at the camera and said, "We played like crap!!" I was not at all suprized when he decided to hang it up and join the Army, Rangers yet! I saw an interview at ground zero when the team was in NY and he was devastated. I think it was then that he made up his mind to make a difference. He had a short life but he left a large legacy for us all. When the draft is on remember he would want you to enjoy it to the fullest, he would!!
