Does Warner have any trade value?

I dont see putting all my eggs in one basket for a guy with these stats:

60/112 647 yds 53.6 pct comp 4 tds 8 picks and 5.78 yds per attempt.

His percentage completion and yds per attempt were awful let alone the picks. If I were Leinart I wouldnt be worried whether or not I was named the starter. I would be worried about having a playing career in any capacity.

And you dont want this in case:

281/451 3,417 yds 62.3 pct comp 27tds 17picks 7.58 yds per attempt

Great point. I would venture to say that we would have won the Baltimore game and the first SF game.
He couldn't win the second SF game at home so i'm not so sure about that one. In Bmore he pretty much was the QB. Funny both games were lost on Rackers legs. Attempted :hijack: :D.

Yes, Warner has trade value.
But Leinart has not proven himself and maybe injury prone. Last year I was for releasing Warner but after this year I want him on the team. I am not sure Leinart is ready to start even when he is healthy. Trading Warner would be risky IMO.

Here's where your comparison starts to take on water. The guys you mentioned, essentially did nothing before being given the starting job. Leinart has been handed the job twice, been injured twice and regressed in the time that he was healthy. That's a lot different than just being green and going through the learning process.

I don't like how you insinuate that Leinart was just handed the job. The whole plan for the 2006 season was for Warner to finally have the HB that he needed to run the offense effectively and his play would keep Leinart on the bench. Unfortunately, he literally fumbled the starting position away against St. Louis and Atlanta and pretty much forced the coaches into making a change to allow Leinart to start. In 2006, Warner gave the starting job away more than the team giving it to Leinart.

We always scored points with Warner. I am pretty confident he could have gotten the ball into the endzone more that game.

Also, you make a great/obvious point in the thing about Rackers though. I still for the life of me dont understand why everyone dispises me for dwelling on it. With all of our injuries and bad play, we would still have made the playoffs this year if we had an average FG kicker. In my eyes replacing him has to be the #1 priority this offseason.

That's true but in that case, Leinart didn't do anything to win the job, he was just the next guy in line behind a struggling QB. Leinart started well but struggled in most of his starts in '06 and then got hurt. Warner donned the glove and outplayed Leinart in the preseason but he was handed the job again. He struggled through most of his time in '07 and got hurt again and now has been handed the job again. So far, he hasn't earned his starting status. Warner deserved to be benched in '06 but has redeemed himself. This will be Leinart's second chance to keep the job. All he has to do is play comparable to Warner. Not even match or exceed him, just get in the ballpark and he'll be left in as starter. If he doesn't keep the job this time, he may be in trouble.

Not sure Warner's value, but no way I ride or die in '08 with Leinart and no high-quality backup.

Warner does have some trade value, however....

It would be wrong to trade him without asking him if he would welcome a trade. The guys been a warrior and deserves a say.

IF you were to trade Warner there would have to be an alternative plan to bring in another qb.

Just ain't gonna happen.

Another point to be made is Leinart is not going to turn into Tom Brady next year. He is going to go thru some rough times. We all hope Leinart will be better next year and better the following year. What we all fear is missing the playoffs next year because Leinarts "better" isn't enough to make the playoffs.
Warners play has thrown a wrench into next years plans but let me remind you he screwed up enough this year to cost us a spot in the playoffs. His 2 dumb interceptions and fumble against the Redskins did just that. Rackers had an opportunity to bale us out and win that game but failed. Had we beat the Skins we would have been in the playoffs.

That being said, Warner seemed to maybe "get it" the last couple of games playing within himself and minimizing the dumb interception. That is why we now sit by our computers and ponder what to do at QB. Had Warner kept turning the ball over against the Falcons and the Rams we would all be sitting here cheering on Leinarts return.

The position will be looked upon as a potential problem going into next training camp , but it's a nice problem.

I'll take our current situation over having to decide over Blake,McCown, Smith, and Navarre.

I think people are overstating Warner's year a bit and just remembering the last 2 games against 2 absolutely horrible teams that are picking in the top 5 of the draft. There was no pressure on him or the Cards. The games we needed to win he was not nearly as effective and very turnover prone.

Very good point, indeed.
I think the QB position will play itself out.

That's a horrible arguement IMO. Warner was insanely tough to even contemplate playing in that game. Do you think Rattay could have done anywhere near as good after being with the team for 10 days. Rackers didn't almost bail anyone out either. He missed an XP that cost us the game and then blew a FG like usual.

I agree wholeheartedly with the rest of the post though.

A healthy Warner, Boldin, Fitz, defense and 2nd year in the system would mean a very quick start to the '08 season. Rackers getting back on track wouldn't hurt either.

I respect your opinion, but keep in mind Warners threw 2 picks. One was returned to our 24 yd line and one for 6. His fumble was inside the red zone. I admire his courage and toughness, but it is what it is.

I know you like Warner. His performance in the last 2 games is what we all hoped we would get all season long.
It was documented the turmoil Warners play caused when Whiz thought he was doing more than he should. Maybe the message got thru to him.

I'd still take our QB dilema than most other teams.
