LOL, You guys are pretty decent. I've got to tell you, if the Cards were taking on anybody else other than my beloved Steelers, I'd definitely be backing them for the Superbowl.

In this great city of heavy drinking, where everybody is a Steeler fan, what is the number one beer of choice? Budweiser? Miller? Coors? Nope. Yuengling is the best selling brand of beer. Most bars change their kegs2-3 times a night. If this comes down to how much Yuengling is drank, again, you guys are screwed. :)

Now see, I've got friends in Pitt. They all tell me people SAY they drink Yuengling while sneaking Iron City into their mug.

Besides, we all drink Kiltlifters, and nobody messes with the Scotch. We've got this curse thing bagged.

Scottish? Last I checked, Kiltlifter's brewed in California. Those guys in CA aren't wearing Kilts, they're wearing dresses. Big difference, there, laddie.

Per capita, Pittsburgh drinks more beer than any city in the United States outside of GreenBay and Cleveland. On Forbes List of Drunken Cities Pittsburgh came in 8th. Phoenix didn't even make the top 20 that I could tell.

Sir, the question is how much Yuengling CARDS fans are drinking...trying to pay back the Pottsville curse. Phillycard, Jersey Girl and I have put down plenty. We are drinking that curse away!

I'm drinking a Murphy's Red, that has to cancel out part of the curse I would think. Maybe at least a false start or something? Maybe my missing Wadsworth or VandenBosch jerseys will miraculously show up? Something, anything.

This won't be the first thing you are wrong about in the next 2 weeks;)

Ahhh, There's another Scottish Ale from a brewery in California called Moylan's that goes by the name Kilt Lifter, too. My post count isn't high enough to let me post a link, but you can google it if you'd like.

So I'm going to be driving out to Pittsburgh in a few weeks and will be near Pottsville. Is it worth going to the town? I mean it is only about a 45 minute detour but I want to make sure there is more to do than see a sign. Thanks.

America's Finest, If you don't want to go too far, Yuenling bought out the Anheiser Busch brewery in Busch Gardens in Tampa FL. I've been there. Great tour and of course you've got the theme Park.

Nothing like slamming down beers all morning then jumping on the rides.

Well other then the Yuengling brewery, theres not much else going on there. There is a cool sports bar there and I heard a museum, although I didn't see it.

As a Cardinal fans its pretty cool to go there. But its not like there is a ton of Maroons artifacts to look at or take pictures of.

But if you do go, make sure to do something to the sign (pictured on the first page) as who knows if my desecration is wearing off :)

You must be driving from northern New Jersey or New York City... otherwise you won't be going anywhere near Pottsville. Pottsville is about 5 hours from Pittsburgh.

Yea, I'm driving from Connecticut. I was looking at a map and it isn't that big of a detour. Kind of looking for things to do on the way cause I'm not looking forward to 8 hours in a car.

Yuengling brewery is the main draw and isn't bad .... kind of different than many brewery tours as it's pretty old ... not sure how much it's been updated since the 8 years it's been since my last visit

if you're near pottsville i'm guessing you're taking the southern route through PA ..... honestly I find most of middle PA to be pretty boring on either the southern route or I-80

pending which way you go there are some minor attractions - yuengling brewery, williamsport and the little league museum, state college, etc

but mainly it's just interstate through trees

a lot of good hiking, camping, etc .... but nothing too stimulating when we'd make the drive over from philly

although honestly i'm probably more familiar with the towns & attractions near wellsboro in the northern part of the state and the immediate philadelphia area

As an aside, one of the top sports graphic designers - Joe Bosack - is headquartered in Pottsville:

He and I have discussed this issue, and I even mentioned this thread to him. He doesn't really have any allegiance to the Maroons, but finds it interesting nonetheless.

Well, if you go to Pottsville, you'll pretty much be wanting to take I-76 across the state. I absolutely DESPISE 76. Especially as you near Pittsburgh, the road work gets simply unbearable....it is just so bad. I-80 will have some road work, but not nearly as bad. I-80 also has better scenery, IMO, especially in the eastern part of the state.

As far as how much I favor I-80...whenever I'm in the Harrisburg/Lancaster area, I make sure to take I-80 back to New Castle, which is about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh. You also have to pay pretty hefty tolls going on I-76 compared to no tolls on I-80. If you want to go to Pottsville, however, I-76 it is.

that's the name .... I-76 .... i've only went that way a couple of times, once to stop at Yuengling

usually we'd either visit or pick up some friends at state college so we were tied more to I-80 when coming over from philly

If you are going past Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's trash can of political garbage, and you have time, your next stop should be Gettysburg. I am a BIG fan of the area and I can promise you, if you stop and take in the atmosphere of the battlefields, it will be like something you never felt before and it will draw you back. If your a history buff, all the better. But I don't think you need to be to feel the awe of such sacred ground.

I didn't even think of Gettysburg. I have no qualms going out of my way to go there. Thanks for the suggestion.
