Doing their "due diligence". Could it be this simple?

Try this conspiracy theory on for size: Cards plan to hire Ray Horton all along but aren't 100% sold on the offensive staff. Mikey and Kiem let Ray know that he is the guy, but decide to bring in a bunch of offensive coordinators just to pick their brains about who they would bring in on their offensive staffs. Take notes on each guy.

Hey Mike McCoy, we would love for you to be the next coach of the Cardinals but we just have a few questions. "Who would you bring in as the quarterback coach?" "Hey Jay Gruden, just curious who you had in mind for the offensive line coach?" Oh by the way Darrell Bevelle we love how you pound the ball in Seattle and how you developed Russell Wilson. If we bring you in as a head coach, you obviously won't have time to spend with everyone so who would you bring in to help with the running game and with the quarterbacks?"

Check the names given and see if Ray has any connections to McCoy or Gruden or Bevell's choices for Offensive Coordinator, Quarterback coach, Offensive line coach.

Just a theory. I'm bored.

I don't think they're in the due diligence mode.....more like impatient frustration mode.

Not a bad theory, but trying to bring McCoy back for a second interview kind of throws that one for a loop.

That'd be nice but I think you're giving Bidwill too much credit here.

How about this staff.....from Somers:

Horton seems to be the obvious choice. He’s in the building. People know him. He wants the job. And if he can make good on delivering Norv Turner as coordinator and Mike Tice as offensive line coach, (which has been discussed according to XTRA-910′s Mike Jurecki), then it seems that side of the ball has been adequately addressed.

Didn't see this mentioned before. It has been the Kirby for OC that I have seen.....

Has Turner been hired somewhere (Browns, Chiefs) or is he still available?

So maybe, MAYBE, Horton can get these two guys for his offensive staff. If so, I say HIRE HIM TODAY (as HC)!

I think if Turner already agreed to coming here Horton would have already been hired, and I will guarantee Alex Smith is our QB next year.

Maybe they've been seeing if Whisenhunt gets hired elsewhere first. If he does, I believe it saves them money as they would only have to pay the difference between what he's making and the $5.5 million they owe him. Once it's determined how much they'll have to pay him, they'll have a better idea of what they can offer. The fact that he continues to be passed over hasn't helped them. Just another theory to throw out there.

maybe they like Horton...but as a defco..not yet as a HC....so they are stalling so all of his other opportunities will dry up.....then they hire an offensive guy and keep Horton as well....

I dunno, but having Turner and Mike Tice on the offensive staff sounds pretty good to me.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if this were the case. Meanwhile, Whisenhunt doesn't need a job & will only take a HC job that perfectly suits him. He won't be stupid enough to get hired by a joke franchise again. Whiz was thrilled to get fired by these clowns. What is transpiring is exactly why our best option was to keep Whiz on. I've watched this franchise operate for so long now that I can practically predict their every move. Make no mistake that Daddy Bidwill still makes all final decisions!

I think this is as good a theory as any. Word is if he gets passed up for HC positions he will go to denver to be the OC. He is not a Cowher or Gruden, he cant afford to take a year off and be forgotten about next year for openings.

You can bet a MILLION dollars on this....no matter who we sign as our next head coach, it will be "The Guy We Wanted Right From The Start!"

Maybe they're just doing "due diligence." Maybe they were outmanouvred by other teams for guys like Reid or McCoy. Or maybe (as one GM is said to have observed after the Suggs/McDougal/B Johnson?/C Pace draft debacle ("Trust the Cardinals to find a way to screw it up") and that the Cards are merely tieing themselves in knots that need never to have existed.

Truth is - We don't know (and may never will).

For every line of speculative thought is another line going in the opposite direction.
