The NFL informed teams Friday that a "recalculation" of the league's compensatory pick formula determined that the four selections awarded to the Miami Dolphins were one too many.

The No. 256 selection, one pick before the Kansas City Chiefs are slated to take Mr. Irrelevant at No. 257 overall, was stripped from the Dolphins. Instead, the New Orleans Saints were given one extra pick at the tail-end of the seventh round.

The confusion is surrounding wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr., who left the Dolphins and joined the Saints last year on a two-year, $5.75 million deal. While the NFL decided that was big enough to earn Miami a compensatory pick (and cancel out one for New Orleans), Wilson shouldn't have been in consideration at all.

In August 2023, the Dolphins reworked the receiver's contract to make it automatically void after the season. The shortened deal made Wilson ineligible to count as a compensatory free agent.

The change means the Dolphins are now set to pick 10 times in the 2025 NFL draft.
