There it is, Luka was not asking for a trade or demanding lakers or else. - that is all spin.

Mavs are so dumb they don’t even deny it.
that's what I've heard from dallas media. everyone in dallas is questioning the trade because most accounts feel that Luka wasn't leaving in the future nor was he asking to leave. although that was a concern a few years ago, dallas had made a lot of changes in recent years to give doncic a better support cast.

case closed. What kind of excuse could the Mavs make for talking to only one team for a crappy deal? "Well, we didn't want the mess of a bidding war that could have netted us an even better haul than the Nets got for KD. We just had to have an aging AD and we don't really need more first round picks from the Lakers or anyone else."

I wonder if this means the Lakers go full blow up and LeBron is next.

If so, we might as well try to win the old folks title and throw Bradley Beal (his contract will run out just in time for 2027 FA), all of our picks and... hell... throw Dunn in too.

LeBron/KD/Book - that would just kinda be hilarious/fascinating to see on the court.
wouldn't we have to trade book for curry in that scenario

Taking nothing away from Anthony Davis, but Luka is only a 25-year-old superstar.

No one does this type of trade for an aging superstar except a team like the Suns.

The Suns are hardly alone in NBA history swinging for the fences by building a super team. However, if this was really about getting a big? They could have easily involved multiple teams in this trade to get their big and bring back the assets he is worth. Even if the Mavs didn’t want to pay him there were so many options to get his real value. The Mavs reasoning holds no water.

Harrison also said that doncic won't talk to him. so that suggests that doncic isn't happy with him. this is definitely not Mark Cuban's team anymore.

Luka did the smart thing, came out first to speak. Is he honest? Who knows. So many questions came about since this happened late all he needs to do is pick and choose which questions he wants to create a narrative that benefits him.

If his wife was involved, as rumored, there's zero chance he throws her under the bus and admits that what went down also.

Questions about Luka's character goes all the back to before he was drafted though. Anything he says needs to be taken with a grain of salt. He's doing PR now. What's done is done.

and the Answer to that is...

the "new NBA" is giving superstars like Durant and Luka exactly what they want because all they have to do is turn the screws on their team to get it. Though the NBA will benefit from this move, it should indeed step in to prevent this kind of player manipulation spiraling further. And that's another reason Luka made sure his manipulation was hush, hush.

wake up to the modern world, people. We're all being manipulated by the rich and powerful

Q: why give superstars the $280 million or more they want when there's "aprons" involved?
A: they'll just drop another $20 on a the price of jerseys, tickets, beers, and cable subscriptions and you'll pay it
It’s all good when the manipulation favors the home team, but when it doesn’t all h**l breaks loose.

true, but if the narrative is that he wanted a trade I don't see why Harrison wouldn't just say that it was. it would be a lot easier to sell mavs fans on the deal. this was Harrison being proactive and not allowing Doncic to leave later without getting anything in return. but there is still no indication that Doncic would have necessarily left dallas. this makes me feel that Dallas truly did not want him anymore. there's no other way to explain the move.

Is Harrison a public facing owner like Cuban? Obviously not to the same degree or we'd know it but I didn't even know the name. Most owners stay in the shadows and speak once, maybe twice, a year.

Why would that happen when they just signed the giant new tv deals which means the cap is going up?
They go from being old has beens, to now they can transition to younger new ERA of Lakers basketball.

1. waiting to leave as a free agent involves, uh, waiting. Luka and his wife are probably not accustomed to that. In many minds, including his, he's the new King James, and he'd like to play with the old one, now, under the bright lights before he takes over the throne.

2. Dallas needed the cover of, "no Lakers, Luka's not asking demanding a trade to you. It's what we want. So give us your best deal." To admit, even now, that it was Luka's demand is to admit you lied, and other teams shouldn't believe you in the future either.

Harrison is the GM and Michael Finley is his assistant. Harrison also has a history and relationship with the Lakers front office. Jason Kidd does as well because Kidd coached AD and Lebron. It was Finley who took a beer away from Doncic right in front of a camera which was a weird moment after the mavs won the western conference last year. that was the first time I heard mavs fans speculate that Doncic and mavericks front office were not on the same page. Patrick Dumont is the Governor and part owner, he is Miriam Adelson's son in law and business partner. so Dumont is basically filling the role that Cuban once did. Miriam Adelson is the primary owner.

Ok, that makes sense. I thought the Harrison you referenced was part of the new ownership group. My mistake. I knew Cuban sold his majority stake but wasn't sure of the names involved and assumed Harrison.

Interesting note about that Finley/Luka beer stuff. We only see the surface level stuff like that and are left to speculate on motives.

Appreciate all the back and forth here. Hope AD works our for Dallas so long as the Suns don't pull a horseshoe out of their behind and make a run.

I think Doncic could have left by now if he didn't feel like waiting. he's been with Dallas since 2019. it would be too easy for Harrison to pitch it to mavs fans if Doncic wanted out and asked to be traded. no reason to hide that IMO.

The Mavs still have more assets than us.

that's what I'm hoping. and they have both Gafford and Lively. I'd imagine one of those would get traded now.

For whatever it's worth, since Luka came into the NBA his team (with and without him) has gone 12-19 against the Suns.

As for the trade, I don't think it makes the Mavs better but I believe it gives them a better chance to win it all this season. With Luka's hamstring and reported conditioning, I'm not sure how much of a factor he'll be this year.

I think Dallas was fleeced in this deal from a value standpoint but if they felt compelled to move him to the Lakers than it would start to make some sense.

Didn’t the Suns start out like 11-1 against Luka? It’s been downhill ever since that playoff series

yeah that and Mark Cuban has already come out and made it known he had 0 involvement or consultation on the trade. he's out of the front office. he is basically a fan now who owns minority share and is mostly working on lobbying for a new arena. Cuban is probably in a tough place here because he wanted Dallas to keep Doncic, but he's also the one who hired Harrison and handed him the reigns even before Cuban sold his share of the team and gave way to P. Dumont.
you don't see them playing ad as a power forward? i think that's why they got him
maybe, but not sure that they would keep both. I guess that's a good point though. we will see, probably just depends on who they could trade for. There was a lot of noise about Gafford getting traded before Lively fractured his foot. Lively is expected to be back in a month or so.

not completely sure, but that's what I remember. when Dallas were down 0-2 in that series everyone in Dallas thought they were cooked because their struggles with the suns dated back a very long time.

Not to mention it looks bad for a franchise that it's star player wants out. They don't want to be seen like that.
