Billy Donovan is working to get out of his Orlando Magic contract and return to the University of Florida, several sources confirmed Sunday night.

An AAU coach who has a player being recruited by the Gators' staff said he learned through conversations with assistant coaches from Florida and Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday that Donovan had second thoughts on his five-year, $27.5 million deal and had contacted UF athletic director Jeremy Foley on Saturday about returning to his old job.

This will be a devastating blow to the Magic's public relations score of hiring Donovan. Orlando officials probably will turn to former Miami Heat coach Stan Van Gundy, who ironically, was one of the people that Donovan sought counsel from before accepting the Magic job Thursday. Van Gundy doesn't look as good in a suit but is considered an excellent pro coach. Van Gundy met with Magic management on Thursday before the hiring of Donovan.

P.J. Carlesimo, the San Antonio Spurs' assistant coach, also was on the Magic's short list.

Orlando Sentinel is reporting they have let him out and he's going back to Florida with a raise.

He's holding out for Riley's job.

Can't have it for 5 years, ESPN is reporting Orlando is requiring him to sign a promise he won't take another NBA job for 5 years if they let him out.
