...but the Lakers have moved into the top ten in lottery seeding, with a big road trip coming up. I think we all know how this is going to play out.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Nash and Kobe return near the end of the month as expected.

No Kobe, no Nash. Something stinks.

If the Lakers don't finish with one of the 3 worst records and make the jump into for the #1 pick I'll be very disappointed. Right now they are basically in a 4 way tie for the 4th worst record. Boston, Utah, Sacramento all have 22 wins and 41 losses but LA has 42 losses. Cleveland, New York, and Detroit only have 24 wins a piece as well. Orlando, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia have worse records right now. That's 7 teams that will be vying for that #1 pick and another 3 who could be in contention as well if they have a significant injury or finally throw in the towel.

The Lakers beating the odds to win the Lottery is a Stern move though like the frozen envelope in 85. That would be the wrong way to start Adam Silver's reign which IMO really starts this offseason considering all the rules and such for this season are already in place and nothing drastic can change midseason like the actual game rules, draft process, playoff seeding, deadlines for trades or buyouts, etc.

I won't say anything stupid like I'll quit watching the NBA forever or I'll boycott the league because chances are I'll come around eventually because I love basketball but I would probably skip next season in it's entirety. I definitely won't buy any tickets or merchandise. I'm not a season ticket holder but I try to get a 8-12 game flex pack each season.

I highly doubt we get a top 3 pick.

The Lakers haven't had their own draft pick in the top 3 since 1975 - Dave Meyers out of UCLA (#2 overall in 1975) - and he never suited up for the Lakers, but was part of a trade (for Kareem) on draft day.

Magic Johnson (#1 overall in 1979) was a pick from a trade with the Jazz.

James Worthy (#1 overall in 1982) was a pick from a trade with the Cavaliers.

I didn't realize the Lakers had dropped that low. It would be hard to cry foul if they got the number 1. Now if they had the 12th or 13th best record and got the #1.....

It would not be that outrageous for the top 5 picks to swap in some order but if they were #15 and received the number one?!?! You know what will happen......NBA fans everywhere will go ape @$^#.

I'm not sure how tie breakers work in the lottery but I know that teams don't get the same odds if they finish with the same record. So if the Lakers ended up in a 4 way tie for the 4th worst record and say because of tie breakers they ended up slotted at 5,6, or 7 I would expect them to get bumped up in the lottery. This is such a deep draft but also a top heavy draft with the potential superstars in Embiid, Parker, Wiggins, or Randle. Some may take a little longer to come along than others but all them should all-stars during their career at a minimum. Regardless of record or placement I would bet the Lakers regardless of record or placement somehow get into the top 3 slots to grab one of those players. The only way they don't move is if they end up in one of the top 4 spots.

Yes they do. From the Wikipedia article on "NBA Draft Lottery":

"In the event that teams finish with the same record, each tied team receives the average of the total number of combinations for the positions that they occupy."

Ok, the average of the 2 spots makes sense. I was more referring to if 2 teams had the same records they each got the same number of ping pong balls that that spot typically gets but averaging it between the number of chances of the 2 spots makes sense.

They are sitting in the 5 spot. IMO, they will be picking 1 or 2... 3 at worst. Considering they are on National TV 1-2 times and are horrible, I see great things for them in the draft lottery.

In fact, I think safe money is to bet that they won't win a top 3 pick in the lottery. I wonder if Vegas has odds on this stuff...

They'll somehow end up with the best immediate impact guy in the draft, Kobe and Nash will make miraculous recoveries next year and they'll be back in the playoffs, leaving the Suns with a pick in the 20s.

Damn the timing of it all.

I used to believe in Lakers conspiracy theories until the CP3 thing. They're done for the immediate future unless they hit it really big in this draft that doesn't contain any sure things. I think they #8 pick in this draft will have a similar boom/bust potential as the #1.

Paranoia, the Destroyer. I think there are a few Kinks in the draft process but I don't believe it's rigged, now or ever. If it had been, there would be evidence, lots of it.

The old Nash Rambler is getting older year by year, no matter how many years he avoids the junk yard.

After all, he wasn't just driven on Sundays by a little old lady. :D

If so, she was probably from Pasadena.

Maybe the draft process is pure. However, let's put it another way. If Jerry Colangelo was appointed NBA Commissioner after he left the Suns, I think there would be a stronger level of trust between the fan and the league.

My family bought an old Nash Rambler when I was young that had been driven all over the world as I judged by all the decals. The odometer had turned over. I think we paid like $200 dollars for it. We drove it hard (and I do mean hard) numerous years and then finally sold it when something broke. Well, the gentleman who bought the car came back to us sometime later and said he fixed it for less than a dollar and it was still running great.

I just had to throw in my 2 cents about our Nash Rambler, one of the best cars ever owned. Maybe Steve Nash will keep on running awhile longer as well.
