Sometimes I think I have some bad vibe connection with this organization. I sat on my couch yesterday and before that little turd returned the kickoff I wrote down touchdown and did the same thing when they returned the punt.

Anyway, I've been tallying a really creepy list of similarities between that awful 1995 (Buddy Ryan's last season) and this 2005 team. Here is the list.

1. Recycled old quarterbacks-Dave Kreig/Kurt Warner

2. Savior head coaches in the 2nd year of their programs-Buddy Ryan/Dennis Green.

3. New feature runningbacks-Garrison Hearst coming off injury/JJ Arrington rookie

4. 3-1 in the pre-season

5. Really hyped defenses

6. Playoff projections

7. Head scratching overpaid Right Tackles-Larry Tharpe/Oliver Ross

8. Lost to East coast team in opener-Redskins/Giants

9. Lost by 21 to Redskins/would have lost by 21 if we converted the 2 point conversion.

10. Injured middle linebacker-Eric Hill/Gerald Hayes

11. Head scratching release of offensive linemen-Ben Coleman and Earnest Dye/LJ Shelton

I really, really hope there isn't any truth to all this. I'm starting to think this team really is cursed.

Interesting. Good post.

however, dave kreig was no 2 time QB MVP...

And the 95 team didn't have the receivers we have.

And Denny Green is > than Buddy Ryan

Great post- its called Karma- the bildwils have no good karma

Actually in the real world (there is something out there over and above football), the Bidwill's likely have excellent karma. They are very quiet about their philanthropy, but they give back big time and across a wide spectrum.

Ummm, didn't Dye loose his arm in a car accident? Not much of a head scratcher.

That was a couple of years later after the Cards had brought him back in.

Didn't lose the arm but damaged it fairly badly.

True enough. But Krieg was a three-time Pro Bowler, who wasn't entirely done when the Cards got him (304-521-3,554 & 16 TDs). If only he hadn't thrown those 21 picks...

And there have been worse starting WR tandems than Rob Moore (63-907) and Frank Sanders (52-883). With Garrison Hearst running for a 1,000+ and Pro Bowler Larry Centers adding over 1,200 total yards from scrimmage, it's hard to believe that team went 4-12. (Of course, five of those losses were by six points or less.) Maybe it had something to do with that much-hyped, 26th-ranked defense, huh?

I have no doubt the Bidwill family are generous and good community people. This unfortunately does not translate into managing a good football franchise. Some day the bad luck, bad Karma, or bad ownership will have to turn just by the laws of statistics.
